Norinco Mak 90 any good?

how do the Norinco Mak 90 rifles perform, i'm in the market for an AK rifle, and have had luck with a few other norinco products as far as quality goes, how does their Ak stack up to the rest?

Well, the blued finish is fairly thin and tends to rust if you neglect it and the standard thumbhole stock sucks.

Otherwise, it's probably one of the best AKs. The entire bolt and carrier are hard cromed, the firing pin is spring loaded so slam fires are non-existant, the trigger is double hooked and a bit smoother than ROMAKs, the mag paddle is large, and probably a few other tidbits I forget. Mine has proven to be pretty darn accurate and typically AK reliable.

Cheap to shoot, accurate enough, and reliable as hell! Excellent rifles for the money!

One of the best. I wish I would have bought one when they were $200.00. For some reason though, I couldn't deal with the butthole stock. Oh well, live and learn.

I have a .223 MAK-90, and for the money, it cannot be beat. It's reliable, made about as good as a AK is going to be made, and Magazines are easy to find.

Great AK for plinking and good all around fun.

The Norinco MAK-90 is a very nice rifle. The quality control is excellent and cost is reasonable. The only AK I feel that is superior to the MAK's quality (for the same money) is the Post-Ban Polytechs. Either can be had for $350-399.

The MAK's can be changed to the pistol grip configuration as long as you substitute enough parts to meet the 922r requirements.

I changed out the stock set on my MAK for a U.S made pistolgrip set and now use the mags with U.S floorplates and followers. I still have all the quality internals and it looks like an AK should.

MAK 90 is a sweet rifle, but the concerns about rust are valid.
Anyone ever had one of these rifles parkerized or any other rust prevention coatings applied?
If so, where, and what was the cost?

BTW, a fine AK variant is a FEG SA-85 if one wants to spent a few more dollars.

I have a Norinco NHM-91, its like a MAK 90 only it has a 20" barrel and it came with a bipod. I've never had a failure to feed and the accuracy isn't that bad at all. The rust concern is true, I keep mine covered with oil when its in the safe. One of my friends had one and his rusted shut and he couldn't open the bolt. All because he figured "its an AK, it'll take anything..."

P.S. I bought mine for $199.99
