Are the Norinco 9mm Tok clones any good? And comments, plus/minus?

Been curious about these for a while.

I've never owned one but have handled them and heard some comments about them. Basically, I believe they are the lowest quality and hence least expensive of the Tok clones.

I do have a 1939 Tula Tok T33 and a 1958 Hungarian T58 (Firebird) 9mm that I enjoy immensely. Simple handguns that are built like tanks. Fun guns for the range and to show your buddies. But, I would never EDC one as they are too heavy and lack modern safety features.

If you plan to buy one, negotiate well and keep us posted regarding your experience.

I should have mentioned that I share these concerns. This pistol would be purchased purely as a range toy and curiosity. :)

I had a 213 and sometimes wish I had it back. It was pretty accurate and reliable with FMJ. It needed a little work to feed hollow points, but once done it was reliable with them as well. I never really relied upon the safety. It's hard to overcome the hammer when racking the slide. There were some really sharp edges/points on mine; they would find a way to bite me when cleaning the pistol. There are two types of the 213: one uses a dedicated 9mm magazine and there is a spacer pinned the frame to facilitate it's use; the other uses a 7.65x25 magazine with a spacer installed inside it.

The one I have is somewhat susceptible to limp wristing, keep a firm grip, and its a pretty fun range gun. I'm not sure if the safety position was standardized on these pistols or not, but on my 213 its positioned in a way that cuts into your grip. In addition to being poorly positioned, its difficult to manipulate, I simply removed it, and ignore the small hole thats left. I can echo gb's sentiments about sharp edges and a stiff mainspring.

I had a Norinco T-54 for a few years. Had a 9mm and 7.62x25 barrel. I never had a malfunction with it, it was decently accurate, and the trigger was actually pretty good. I still kick myself for selling it.

And yeah, the safety is worthless

I have a friend who had one and his had the spacer mounted on the mag. It shoots good and had the louse safety mounted into it poorly, will have to see about removing it and picking up a few more mags.

Surprisingly, the (7.62×25) mags for the Tok and clones will work just fine with 9mm (9×19) ammo for clones chambered in that caliber. But, not vice versa. The Yugo clones are the odd ball variants since their mags hold an extra round, hence they won't work in an other of the commie block country guns.

Wow, everyone basically said everything that I have experienced with mine! Runs like a champ, solidly accurate, typically never MALF's. The safety was obviously an afterthought for import, I also removed mine.

I did have one problem-- broken internal part, the disconnector, only ran some $12 for the part and install was quick and easy. A standard TT-33 replacement part was perfect.

About the only think not yet mentioned is that the sights -- especially the front sight, just teeny weeny and difficult to pick up quickly. I'd also suggest that magazines aren't nearly as easy to snag at will and for cheap the way they used to be.

Mine is a great shooter. Oh and serious agreement that the slide is quite difficult to draw back with the hammer down, this simply must be part of the design, a harsh angle on the firing pin stop.

I have a NORINCO Type 54-1 thats been converted to 9mm luger, and it's a very reliable shooter, I still have my original 7.62 TOK barrel but never use it

9mm is so much easier to get and cheap to shoot

it works with my old magazines, and also works with my 9mm magazines since both fit in the mag well.

these only cost $89 - $99 back in the early 90's they were a dime a dozen back then

I have one. I got it used for cheap. It looks like it has been shot a lot. It still functions flawlessly. It is accurate and I like it.
