Norinco 1911s

I know this might not be the right place, but here it goes...

My Dad (and I did, too ) recently had his pride and joy stolen. Yeah, it was a Norinco 1911A1, but he had done of lot of customizing on it. I've been trying to convince him to get a Sistema, but he's set on a Norinco. Anyone know he can get himself a Norinco in decent shape and at a reasonable price? Any and all help would be great. Thanks.

His e-mail address is: chast@premierweb.net

Norincos are good base guns for customizing, but can be a little spotty on quality. Some take more work than others.

Systemas, on the other hand, seem to be much better out of the box.

Talk to the man again. Tell him he'll get more gun for his money with Systema.

(That said, I have a Norinco that was built/customized by a Texas gunsmith who specialized in 1911s. It was later "improved" with new sights and barrel bushing by TFL's [The Smithy] George Stringer. It shoots right with several of my friend's Wilson Customs, and does it for about a 1/3 of the price. But if I were to start from scratch, I'd use a Systema as the base gun.)

The Norinco 1911 are great guns, I wish that I had bought a truck load of them back when. Your Dad is right I would wait and get what I wanted too. Listen to your old man, he knows his guns and knows what he wants.

The metallurgy on those Norincos were great and the fabrication technique, forging, bespeaks of the days when beer was 10 cents. Along with 7th Fleet, another vote for Norinco.

I own three of the pistols, they all feed, fire and eject with disgusting regularity, like everytime. They have proper heat treat, (the slides a tough) and are made from forgings.

Jim V, you forgot to mention how accurate Norinco 1911A1 pistols are right out of the box. When I get my #2 Norinco back from Maryanne Carniak I will get you a photo. Regards, Richard

Norinco

I have a Norinco 1911 and love it. I've installed a drop in beavertail safety, a combat hammer and a different trigger and had the pistol GunKoted. I bought this pistol in 1993 and will keep it the rest of my life!

I bought 4 of them back in 1991.

One went to my former father-in-law, one went to the gunsmith to build up the last two, which are the top and middle ones here. All the Norinco lockwork was thrown away, as were the barrels. The top gun became my "Gook Cup" IPSC Limited Class gun, Videcki/McCormick/Kart/Ed Brown/BoMar poster child, while the middle one became my ex-wife's carry gun, Videcki/Springfield/Ed Brown/Novak, the Delta Elite grips were her idea.

The money saved on the initial purchase of the Norinco's for their frames and slides went a long way into making them what you see here.

The bottom gun is a Caspian Officer's ACP, if Norinco had offered a baby ACP I would've started with that route, too.

On the Norinco vs Sistema, I think I will vote for the Norinco. I have two and, as Jim V. said, they just go bang with monotonous regularity. My older one has about 4000 through it with NO failures, almost all ball ammo, though.
