Norinco 1911 - opinions?

I've got a trade deal working with a Norinco 1911 pistol.

Anybody own/handle one? Are the parts interchangable with the Colt?

Thanks.

I have one that was tweaked by a 1911 gunsmith before I bought it. I added night sights and a new barrel bushing (needed for the new night sights). Ambi safety and a mag well. I have about $650 in it. It shoots right with Wilsons and Baers costing 3-4 times as much. Nice gun.

I have a friend with one, too. He paid $325 for it and did his own trigger job. It shoots beautifully.

It is fully compatible with Colt 1911s and other mil-spec guns.

Best Kept Secret?

The Norinco 1911A1 is one of the best kept secrets in handguns. Like Walt says they, including mine, will shoot with Gold Cups for a fraction of the price. If it is $350 or less jump on it. If $350-450, think about it then jump on it. When you get into the $450-550 range you might think Springfield 1911A1 (loaded). Regards, Richard

Thanks for the quick responses guys. I was a little worried with the Norinco name on it, but you've put those fears to rest.

I appreciate the pricing, too. I see I didn't make out too bad on the trade. Pretty fair trade for my M1 Carbine, I think....

Only if your carbine was a Universal or Plainfield, etc.

A true milsurp Carbine is going for $500 - $600, nowadays.

(Believe me, I know... I've been looking and pricing.)

Norinco barrels shoot just as well as the "big" name barrels. One of the name smiths ran out of his barrels when working over a Norinco and went with the factory barrel. Shot just as well as his barrels.

I have three of the pistols and they just feed, fire and eject with disgusting regularity. :) (all bought after Willie the Crook stopped imporatation).

I have two Norinco .45 pistols. I have put about 5000 through one and about half that through the other with no (that's 0, as in zero) problems of any kind.

As Jim V says, they are boring. They just feed, fire and eject. Nothing like the stuff folks love to write about on the forum. No pieces breaking or falling off or falling apart; no rounds pointing at the sky; no magazines falling out. Just monotonous regularity, round after round. And same recoil springs, which check as strong as ever.

Further, the 5000 round gun shows no significant wear, anywhere.

I bought both used, so the Chinese already had their money.

Jim
