Hi every one,

well here is my small collection so far

my question is, what sights and grips would you guys suggest for my 1911? i have found a few houge grips that i am interested in and like but i cant find or decide on a sights at all and i need some help in that area.

Next question, is i am hunting for a scope and a new pair of wood grips for my 44mag....any help on that?

I'm not sure why you'd want to change the sights and/or grips. The sights on your Colt (Novaks?) appear to be traditional and extremely functional sights for a modern 1911. I have them on my Smith & Wesson 1911 and I find the front sight easier to visualize on that gun than on any of my other handguns. The grips also are traditional and, I think, work well for most people. I'm not familiar with Hogue rubbers on a 1911 (I've equipped some of my revolvers with Hogues). Hogues are great for handling heavy recoiling revolvers. But, a 1911's recoil is not all that substantial and the traditional grips have an advantage in that they are relatively thin.

As for changing the grips on your .44, I'd think twice before swapping those rubbers for wooden grips. Wooden grips look nicer than rubber but they often fail to absorb recoil nearly as well as rubber grips. .44 magnum is a pretty hard kicking round and you might regret giving up the recoil absorbtion provided by the rubbers.

i have weighed my options on the rubber grips for the 44 and am willing to take it....that pistol is mostly bought to mod out and put up....the 1911, well i dont like anything stock, i cant stand it, i want to mod my pistol to my liking.....and the only sights i would really trade it out for is night sights, green dot sights but was really hoping for some recomendations from other people on where to go and where to buy

Jusselin,

Virtually all of my 1911s have Alumagrips, engraved with my initials. I also find them appealing because they are available in "thin" versions, which are more comfortable for me and give the gun an entirely different "feel," and one that I personally prefer.

There are lots of websites geared toward firearms customization, especially 1911's. I am not a 1911 guru but the sky is the limit there, just use google. As far as the revolver, most people on here are not the safe queen type, myself included, but if that's what you want to do with that fine revolver, to each hiw own. Again, google is your friend. There are pages of custom wood grips on midwayusa.com, that's only one site. Just search. None of us can tell you what you want, so spend some time looking around and see what's out there and what you like.

i have googled and didnt come up with much on the sights or the grips questions.....

but thank you guys for the input

Best handgun sights in the world:

Have to be done up custom for 1911s so far. They're a simple bolt-on for Glocks.

These really change the whole game. You focus on the target, not the front sight. Changes *everything* - fast as hell and you can tell if somebody is reaching for a cellphone versus weapon.

If you looking for grips which will personalize your 1911 check out :

I got the grips on my DW CBOB from Sarge at that website.

Your sights look good. Unless they lack tritium for glowing in the dark and that is something that you want.

1911

I have the same LW commander as u and the wood grips that are stock, to me, are nice for show, but I sure prefer the Hogue wraparound with finger stalls, halts the gun from shifting when I fire.

Not really. It's a Taurus.

The market doesn't do a very good job supporting aftermarket Taurus products because they tend to be range toys for new hobbyist shooters rather than working guns for police/military/hunters and serious self defense students.

I'll agree that the standard rubber Taurus grips tend to be pretty thin, and the "ribber" grips on the Trackers are abominable. My model 94 from them has grips that are way too thin.

You can look into a meatier grip from Hogue:

Scope mounts? Jack Weigand makes great stuff, and he even makes a scope mount for the large frame Taurii.

The scope itself will be a very personal choice on your part. You want long eye relief, but aside from that who knows if you want 1.5x, 2x, 4x, variable... or 20mm objective, 30mm, 33mm, 40mm even. Or a red dot or holographic sight.

I will say: If you feel you can't shoot accurately and need a scope to shoot the .44 better... you need more trigger time. If you can't touch 6 holes together with your .44 at 25 yards, then there's something wrong with your technique or with your gun. A scope won't fix that, and it will actually introduce more wobble due to the extra weight.
