I know this is the Powder forum, so this is where I will get to my question.

When I moved into my house, it was a repo, and in a curious state to say the least. On top of a closet structure, buried way back, I found a Thompson Center Cal54. Probably a kit gun. I have no interest in it, and figger I will sell it. I also am clear on the fact that its not anything special, but I would like some comments on what it might be worth...

I also own, from my Fathers collection, a .257Roberts with a pre WWII czech Mauser action. It was Dad's favorite hunting rifle...

Anyhoo, Howdy! and any input on that TC 54 would be appreciated!

You may very well have a kit gun but would ask; Why do you think it is?

As you noted, it's a TC and it's a Hawken Style. Hard to tell but looks to be an early model, say early 80's. Again, hard to tell but I'm seeing lots of surface rust. Value will vary with the conditin of the bore. At least, it would make a good wall hanger. I'd guess the range to be about $100.00 to $200.00. Just don't have a better idea without an inspection. If the bore is good, could still be a great shooter. There are folks who would be interested in buying. :)

looks to have a good deal of rust on the outside. Hows the bore? If its rusty/pitted that really kills the deal.

Right now i would think $150-175 at the most.

Really don't look all that bad to me. Surface rust mostly. The bore is the thing tho. Surface rust there will clean up pretty easy. Pits are forever. If the serial number starts with a K it's a kit gun.

good responses, thanks...

Yes, the serial has a k... I had assumed a kit based on mill marks I saw underneath the brass bits. I would have finished it better!;)

The rust is pretty light actually, and I will look at the bore later. Thanks again...

I thought it would be worth about $100, so I am not getting disappointing news...

Thanks for the welcomes, and the help!

Not always but most may. Perhaps all "K" prefix T.C. M/L's are kit guns but not all kit guns have that prefix.

Now you got it and that is always one of my measures. :)

I never said ALL kit guns have a K prefix. TC kits do and TC is what we were referring to.

Correct!! and did not word it very well. I'll try it this way. Not all TC Hawken Kit guns have the "K" prefix. ;)

Yes they do. At least I never saw or heard of one that was a kit that didn't have a K prefix.
