"None of my proposals would effect on hunters or sportsmen or people who use rifles"

I couldn't fit it in the title bar. The whole text is:

"None of my proposals would have any effect on hunters or sportsmen or people who use rifles."

Does anybody NOT know who said this, last night, on national TV ? Does this make you feel good ? Are you convinced yet that Gore will work to remove your handguns from your hands?

IS EVERYBODY HEARING THIS LOUD AND CLEAR ?

Gore is just trying to divide up gun owners into "evil, handgun-owning" types and "non-threatening rifles and shotguns for hunting types". He realizes that if he doesn't get a majority portion of the gun owner vote in this election he isn't going to win.

All of his swing states are going to go Bush if the people who own guns vote for their Second Amendment rights. Gore is trying to play down his role in removing those rights. Its up to us to make sure we highlight it whenever possible.

In any case, if Gore wins, I'll bet those gun owners who voted for him will be surprised when their long guns become "sniper rifles" and their self-loaders become completely illegal.

Yes, I was listening. Gore made it pretty clear that he does intend to interfer with handguns!!! We already knew that but he left no doubt. I thought Bush held his own in the debates. I think Bush will be elected. Stubby

Al "Little Willie" Gore is willfully ignorant of the meaning of the Second Amendment. He is blind to the role of firearms, including sidearms, in the defense of liberty and persons. His reference to "sportsmen" is, of course, intentionally misleading.

No More Gore!!!

Gore pointedly excluded handguns in his reply. Definitely an ominous sign. But no doubt a lot of gunowners were listening very, very carefully to his phrasing.

Jimmy, I respectifully disagree (btw Jimmy is may nickname!). Prince Al knows EXACTLY what he is doing. Make no mistake, he is anything but ignorant of the 2nd amendment. He just chooses to ignore it. There is a BIG difference. The ONLY way for the socialists to completely take this country over is to disarm the populace. The only way to disarm the populace is through subversion and subtrfuge(sp). If Gore is elected, we are in HEAP BIG TROUBLE!

Al Gore is not ignorant of the Second Amendment, but he will insist (along with the Clinton DoJ) that it applies only to the possession of government-issue guns by the National Guard. If they admitted to any other interpretation, the people would have the means to resist a tyranny that might cancel elections and rule by decree. (I wonder if Bill has plans to make sure he keeps the job.)

Did anyone notice that a week ago, Al mentioned defense of the home as a reason to have a gun. He was apparently taken to the woodshed by Bill and HCI, as this week there was no mention of home defense, only of hunting.

Go to the "issues" section and search "guns".
It seems to me that Bush has a little explaining to do himself.
If he will ban the importation of hicap mags, I believe he will ban the POSSESSION of hicap mags for the right political reasons. All he will need is a big enough push.

I heard Mr. Gore and immediately the hair on my neck stood up. Like most of his proposals, he likes to pick and choose who wins and loses in his world. You get a tax break, you don't. You can have a "long gun", you can't have a handgun. What happened to "all men are created equal"??

Let's apply this thinking to the rest of the ammendments. You can speak your mind, but you can't because I disagree with you. I'm sure the press would support this as they have the 2nd Ammendment!! Heck, if they want to get the criminals of the streets, why not modify the search and seizure rights to fit some but not others?

Based on what I am seeing, GWB is going to win in 3 weeks and we will still have a Republican Senate majority. Once that happens, I'll then concern myself with GWB's shortcomings.

GWB will get my vote and everyone's in this household!

Bush's stand on RKBA is shakey. But, you have to remember that elections aren't about choosing the better man but, rather the lesser of two evils. Bush will be much easier to deal with on RKBA issues than Gore.

I've said it before and will say it again, "I will not vote for Al Gore even if the world was on fire and he promised to invent water" And he invented a lot of stuff :D
He is the typical Socialist Democrap
All through the debates I kept looking to see if Slick Willies hand was up his a** making him speak

I don't hunt with a rifle. My Casull does the job just fine out to 300 yds or so ('bout all the farther I can accurately hit an 18" plate with Express sights).

Does this mean that I'm not a "hunter or sportsman"?

I dropped rifle hunting 'cause it was getting too "unsportsmanlike" for me.

(What's the point of hunting if you can't/don't stalk? Hitting a target every time at 500yds is BORING.)

LEHRER: Governor Bush, another kind of
gun question. It'll be asked by Robert Lutz
(ph).

Mr. Lutz (ph)?

QUESTION: Governor Bush.

BUSH: Yes, sir.

QUESTION: We'd just like to know, what is
your opposition to the Brady gun --
handgun bill?

BUSH: Could you -- I'm sorry I didn't hear
that.

QUESTION: We'd like to know why you object
to the Brady handgun -- if you do object to
it. Because in a recent TV ad, it showed that
the National Rifle Association says if you are
elected that they will be working out of
your office. I can just see...

BUSH: I don't think the National Rifle
Association ran that ad, but let me just tell
you my position on guns in general, sir, if
you don't mind.

LEHRER: I'm not -- excuse me, I'm not sure
he's finished with his question, Governor.
I'm sorry.

BUSH: Oh, I'm sorry.

QUESTION: Well, actually that kind of
bothers me, you know, when I see that ad
like that. I wonder if you could explain that
ad to me.

BUSH: Well, I don't think I ran the ad; I think
somebody who doesn't want me to
president might have run that ad. It's a --
that wasn't my ad and I think it might have
been one of my opponents' ads.

Here's what I believe, sir. I believe
law-abiding citizens ought to be allowed to
protect themselves and their families. I
believe that we ought to keep guns out of
the hands of people who shouldn't have
them. That's why I'm for instant
background checks at gun shows. I'm for
trigger locks. I think that makes sense.
Matter of fact, we distributed free trigger
locks in the state of Texas so that people
can get them and put them on their guns
to make their guns more safe.

BUSH: I think we ought to raise the age at
which juveniles can have a gun.

But I also believe strongly that we need to
enforce laws on the books, that the best
way to make sure that we keep our society
safe and secure is to hold people
accountable for breaking the law. If we
catch somebody illegally selling a gun,
there needs to be a consequence. We keep
-- somebody, you know, illegally using a
gun, there needs to be a consequence.
Enforcement of law. And the federal
government can help.

There's a great program called Project
Exile in Richmond, Virginia. We focused
federal taxpayers' money and federal
prosecutors and went after people who
were illegally using guns. To me, that's how
you make society the safest it can be.

And so, yes, sometimes I agree with some
of these groups in Washington and
sometimes I don't. I'm a pretty
independent thinker. But one thing I'm for
is a safe society, and I'm for enforcing laws
on the books. And that's what's going to
happen should I earn your confidence.

LEHRER: Vice President Gore?

GORE: Well, it wasn't one of -- it was not one
of my ads either, Governor. But I am
familiar with the statement, and it was
made by one of the top ranking officials of
that organization.

Let me tell you my position. I think that
some common-sense gun safety measures
are certainly needed with the flood of
cheap handguns that have sometimes been
working their way into the hands of the
wrong people.

But all of my proposals are focused on that
problem: gun safety. None of my proposals
would have any effect on hunters or
sportsmen or people who use rifles.

GORE: They're aimed at the real problem.
Let's make our schools safe. Let's make our
neighborhoods safe. Let's have a three-day
waiting period, A cooling off, so we can
have a background check to make sure
that criminals and people who really
shouldn't have guns don't get them.

As I have learned in life, it is more often what in NOT said that matters more. All us handgunners are evil I suppose. I do not know why logic isn't applied to firearms. They are tools like any other and can do nothing on their on volition. They can be used for good or evil. Its possessor determines its use. PERIOD!!

During the debate Gore said "None of my proposals would have any effect on hunters or
sportsmen or people who use rifles." But didn't he say just last week, during debate #2, something to the effect of, "we must do something about these assault weapons"? What do you mean I have to turn in my AK, AR and Camp Carbine?! But, but, during the last debate you said you wouldn't take our rifles? Al? Al? But Al, you said....But you said, Al, you said....

Nothing but a fraudulent container of fecal matter!

Gusgus-
He'd argue that "assault weapons" are a different legal category than "rifles", just as "machineguns" are. And all he needs to do is gradually move things from the "rifles" category into other categories, eventually including "sniper weapons", "large-bore guns", ...

Oh yeah.. but "sporting men" are supposed to play fair and register their firearms when asked right?

We all know better gang.. why are we bothering with all these 00110101 concerning this crap? ;)

I see that support for Bush seems to be strong here and I'm very glad to see it. Just curious about something. Is anyone here besides me actually -doing- anything about getting Bush elected? We can all sit here and preach to the choir but what we -need- to be doing is getting the word out on the streets.

I know some of you are very involved in the campaign and I think that's great. This is for the folks that are just planning on voting. Getting out to vote is, of course, the most important thing we can do but there are other things we really need to do also.

I would like to encourage -all- of you to get a Bush/Cheney yard sign for your front yard, put a Bush/Cheney bumper sticker on your car or truck and call your local Republican Party headquarters and ask what needs to be done. There is still a lot of work left be done in this campaign and a lot of it is done by volunteers. Advertising works and we need to spread the word.

I guess what it comes down to is how much are your second amendment rights worth to you? Are they worth volunteering a Saturday to put out yard signs in your town or working a "get out the vote" drive? Are they worth some time making calls to remind folks to vote on November 7? Please, get involved. As you all know, this is an election we can not afford to lose.
