I am looking into applying for either a Fl or Utah non res. ccw. I need it mostly for florida. I see Utah requires a class recognized by them, how does one get that cert? and can I receive some advice and procedural help for obtaining both. eg. forms and requirements. Many thanks in advance

Joe

For the FL permit they will accept a DD214, military ID card, hunter safety certificate, NRA class certificate for you training requirement.

Don't know about Utah, but I know that Florida will send you the application packet by mail. FL's permit does require training, but it can by any NRA course or any other firearm course that you can provide a certificate for (type of course, instructor's name and certification, etc.). There are other forms of "proof of training" as well, as you'll find in the application instructions.

If you are a not a resident of Florida, and you travel there with a permit from another state, you must be a resident of that state for Florida to recognize it. http://licgweb.doacs.state.fl.us/news/concealed_carry.html

I applied for the FL permit and got it in just under two months! It was quite a painless process, too!

Why not get both? Of course there may not be any good reason to, but I believe in "the more CCWs the merrier." Florida is easier if you already have something they consider acceptable proof of competency. You can order the application packet online (http://licgweb.doacs.state.fl.us/weapons/index.html). One thing about Florida, however, is that you must get your fingerprints taken by a law enforcement agency.

For Utah, you must be certified by a Utah approved instructor. However, there are many outside of Utah. See http://bci.utah.gov/CFP/CFPHome.html for more information and a listing, by state, of Utah approved instructors. You can download the necessary forms from that website.
