Non-1911 Cocked and Locked 45

Other than CZ, who makes a steel framed 45 that is not a 1911 that can be carried cocked and locked, anyone. If so do you have any experience with the gun.

Thanks.

I don't understand what you're looking for here. The "king of the mountain" for Condition One carry in a .45ACP is the one you're looking to AVOID???? I'm not aware of anybody that makes a single-action .45 in a non-1911 configuration, and with good reason..... Nobody is stupid enough to compete with something that will surely never sell.

Why do you ask?

Yo, Callahan! 'Bout time you found your way over here from FR! :D

If you're talking about steel framed, I can't think of ANY other than the 1911.

Obviously, the HK USP would fit the description, but it's polymer and the first shot would still be DA.

I don't know if you want to carry it, but S&W makes one (945?) that is set up like a 1911.

H&K USP series (.45ACP fullsize and compact) can be carried "cocked & locked" as well.

You mentioned CZ-97 already. Witness, made by Tanfoglio, a clone of CZ, can be had in .45 ACP chambering as well.

I am looking for something that is set up the way the CZ is. Cocked and locked if I want but if the gun is in the nightstand and late at night I need it all I want to do is pull the trigger, ie DA first shot. The CZ is simply to big.

On another note, anyone with any experience with the Desert Baby Eagle 45. I know it does not allow cocked and locked but it is of interest.

I`m sure I get some bad replys on this but; take a look at the S&W 4513 or 4553, alloy frame but it makes a nice carry 45 once you replace the grips with Hogue`s....I carry mine alot, and like it...

George (or someone else who knows),

Does the HK USP set up for a SA first shot when it's in Condition 1, or is it a DA? I can't honestly recall.

"non-1911 Cocked and Locked 45"

Sort of a toughy, but ...

... before Smith made their 945 they made a 745, a beautiful blue/stainless single-action version of the 2d Gen. D/A 645.

Certainly fits the description of a "steel-framed .45 that is not a 1911" clone.

On the "cocked & locked" part, however, the 745's "safety" lever, when engaged downward like the standard Smith slide-mounted lever, actually rotated a "block" into place that prevented the hammer from striking the firing pin .... BUT the hammer, although cocked and even with that lever engaged, could still be dropped against the blocking mechanism if you pulled the trigger. Sort of "cocked & blocked" but-not-really-locked-back situation, like we typically think about with "C & L" on a 1911.

I guess you could carry a 745 with the hammer cocked and the safety lever engaged, but my understanding is that this gun was set up and marketed for targets or competitive shooting events, not concealed carry. OTOH, I saw a picture of one once that someone had customized - low mount night sites, dehorning, etc., (maybe Novak's) - so with enough $$$ you could probably have a talented 'smith turn it into a great carry piece. :)

i can't believe that noone has mentioned the finest non-1911 .45 auto pistol:
steel frame wrapped in polymer
optional condition one or DA/SA
internal hammer
de-cocking and COCKING lever
excellent trigger
target grade accuracy
optional extended barrel and barrel weight
optional fix or adjustable sights

HK P9S

I would take a very close look at the TAURUS PT945.

I own the .40SW version, the slightly smaller PT940. It is accurate and reliable. The safety does exactly what you are asking it to do: flicked up from the fire position, it locks the hammer back in "cocked & locked" mode. Pushing down on the safety lowers the hammer into the "DA/SA" mode with a double action pull on the trigger for the first shot.

I've said many times before - I think these guns are underrated. I shoot my PT940 as good, if not better than any other major caliber semi-auto I own, & I have a couple of good 1911 pistols.

I believe there is a Single Action Only mode available for the USP.
I think I recall that there was. Also, a standard Variant 3 IS able to be carried locked and cocked perfectly safely.

Steel frame? Yeah - there is steel in there. Plenty of it. I just had to throw that out because it looked like he was just wanting validation of the CZ option anyways.
