Give Ruger's Records Department a call at (603)863-3300. They're open 8-5 Mon. - Fri ET . They can give you the model number and production date of your Security Six.

According to the '99 Standard Catalog of Firearms, the basic blue Security Six with adj. sights in .357 Magnum is a Model 117.

"Made between 1970 and 1985. Early guns with fixed sights and square butt were also marked 'Security-Six'. The model was later termed "Service-Six" and so marked. Round butt Security-Sixes with adjustable sights are worth a premium."

All I know about the serial numbers is that I have a blue 4" Service Six purchased new in 1985 with a serial number of 160-xxxxx.

FWIW -

Stainless Security Six is the Model 717.
Speed Six is Model 207 in .357, 208 in .38 and 209 in 9mm.
Stainless Speed Six...737,738,739.
Police Service-Six (made until 1988) is Model 107 in .357, 108 in .38 and 109 in 9mm.
Stainless PSS is 707,708,no 9mm.

The GP-100 was introduced in 1986.

Hope this helps.

John
