Anyone notice that the gun the boy had in his backpack in L.A. was a Glock, and it went off when the bag was dropped. Glocks have no safety, and don't start that safe trigger business. Just haven't heard anyone say anything.

Glocks are " drop safe ", meaning they will not go off if dropped. The only way they go BANG is if someone pulls the trigger. The news story is in error..

I don't see this going anywhere good. IBTL

I have two glocks and I've never had this problem. maybe because I don't carry mine loose in a backpack with a bunch of foreign objects that can get in the trigger guard. also glocks have an internal firing pin safety that prevents the gun from firing unless the trigger is actually pulled. I don't know the particulars of this specific incident but either something got in the trigger guard and pulled the trigger or something in the gun was broken/removed. the gun won't go off just because it's dropped.

The news story is in error..

probably more likely than the scenarios I proposed since the news media never bothers to do any research related to guns

The O/P is correct in that our local news reported the gun went off when he dropped his backpack but now the story is that the gun went off when the dummy reached in his backpack to get something out. So the Glockites can rejoice that they only have the kabooms to worry about.

Alrighty then! A Glock thread rife with speculation and little to no actual facts about an unlinked story.
