"No motive, No suspects"

Is it just me, or is there a distinct rise in random violent crimes where the police state that they have "no motive and no suspects"?

Many of these seem to involve random STABBINGS.

The boy in Virginia, for instance, who was stabbed repeatedly and killed in his front yard by a black man that apparently got a ride to the neighborhood, walked down the street, saw the boy, pulled a knife out of his bag and killed the boy, then walked off calmly never to be seen again. I didn't see anything about it on the news though.

I just saw a story of an older lady who was walking to the store and some guy jumped out and stabbed her in the back and ran off. No motive, no suspects.

Of course, the examples are endless.

I find it very disturbing.

It makes me very wary. There does not have to be a reason any more for someone to stab you or a group of thugs to beat you to death for fun.
It is a strange world we live in.

Random violence for "kicks" is not a new phenomenon. Several years ago, the "sport" out in LA among the bored rich punks was "head baseball." A carload of punks would spot a pedestrian at night (the older and more helpless the better) and go assault them with baseball bats. Just for the hell of it. I was TDY a couple of times in LA during that period, and remember ferverently wishing that those ba*ds would try it on me. I can't think of a better use for some US Govt .38 Spls. Naturally, the punks got away with it because CCW licenses were (and are) impossible to get there. Of course, nothing of the sort happened to me. Guess I looked too much like a cop. :-/
