No More BS - letter to editor

I hope this doesn't get lost in all of the election banter. The city of Fargo, ND has had a series of four armed robberies in the past week. A reporter in the local paper advised people not to resist, and I agree, to a certain extent. If someone wants my money, I'll give them my money. If someone threatens my life, I'll take that seriously and will respond accordingly, and with an appropriate amount of force. I just can't sit back and let the criminals think that they've gotten away with their armed robbery BS. I want the dirtbags to think twice about what they're doing. So here is a draft of my letter to the editor. I would appreciate any constructive criticizm, or even a word of support. If you drop an e-mail my way, please notify me in this thread. Thanks.

Dear Editor-
As a frequent visitor to the city of Fargo, I am a little disturbed with the recent outbreak of armed robberies. With your permission, I would like to address the criminal element in town which has committed these armed robberies. If you have committed one of the recent armed robberies in Fargo, my advice to you is this: find another line of "work" with fewer worries. I imagine that you must worry about getting caught. Perhaps the police have matched your fingerprints. Perhaps a witness remembers your features, mannerisms, or license plate number. Perhaps you've told somebody about your crime, and they've told somebody who will tell the police. Perhaps your partner had a little too much to drink one night, and tried to impress the young lady at the end of the bar by telling her of the robbery you attempted. I also must imagine that you worry about attempting to rob someone who will refuse to be a victim. Perhaps the man behind the counter is a retired Marine sergeant. Perhaps the young college student walking to class has a black belt in a taekwondo. Perhaps the customer waiting in line is a plainclothes police officer or a citizen with a valid North Dakota Concealed Weapons Permit. Perhaps the kind old woman in the parking lot has a can of pepper spray. I hope you realize that there are those of us who will fight back if our lives are in immediate danger. There are those of us who take your threats of immediate bodily harm seriously, and we will not back down if you threaten our lives. If you choose to threaten us with force, there are those of us who will choose to respond accordingly. That, and more, must be the kind of things you worry about, just so you can get a thrill and a few dollars. So, take my advice to heart, and find another line of "work" with fewer worries.

CB,

Since you've addressed this one to the criminals, let me address a response as a criminal would.

"To all you upstanding citizens in Fargo, ND. If you think I'm going to rob you at gun point, you may be right. But you better not look me in the eye before hand, or I'll pick someone else. Someone who is so engrossed in their daily lives that they don't take the time to be aware of their surroundings. And don't think for a second I can't tell the difference between a mark and someone who's aware. I can. So, Fargo, ND, pay attention. Or you might meet me and a couple of my pals late one night, in a parking lot with no lights, or a dark alley, or in front of that ATM. So, take my advice to heart, I don't like working 9 to 5, the hours are too restrictive, the pay is way too low and the work is too demeaning. I can just as easily take from you your hard earned money. Then I CAN LAUGH ALL THE WAY HOME."

Country Boy, this is not a personal attack. You should be aware that if someone is committing armed robbery, they really don't care a whit about the danger involved in their 'line of work'. You might even say that adrenalin rush is an added 'perk' to the criminals line of work. Obviously they don't think the same way you and I do and never will. Just my .02. Good letter though, you should send it in.

Wallew- Yeah, I know you are right. Armed robbers know what they are doing, and they know what they are getting into. And I know they can pick an easy mark. I'm just so pi$$ed I can hardly stand it. My fiancee is in Fargo, and I'm here two hours away. She's alert and has her pepper spray, but I worry. I guess I just need someone in that whole [edit] town to realize that some of us won't stand for it. Thanks for the imput.
