No 110 grain ammon in Titanium???

I was at a gun show not long ago and was looking for some deals on ammo. I had a few boxes of 110 grain .38 spl Silvertips on the counter, ready for purchase. The guy selling them asked what I was shooting them in and I told him a S&W 337 PD. He told me you're not supposed to use 110 grain ammo in Titanium guns. Huh???. The barrel is marked ". 38 S&W SPL. +P Jacketed". My understanding is, this is the only restriction on what should be used in the gun, and is based on the fact that some unjacketed +P rounds may pull due to the light weight of the gun and recoil. I asked the guy why there would be such a "restriction" and he just said "I don't know. That's just what they tell me".

Why wouldn't I be able to use 110 gr ammo? Could it have had anything to do with the fact that he had some 125gr +P ammo for sale at a higher price???

Take a breath.

A guy at a gun show tells you something that's hard to believe, and that goes against what you "know" and what the manufacturer says.

When asked to back it up, he says "I don't know...."

From that, what can you conclude...? :D

Always press for specifics. "I don't know. That's what they tell me." My next question is: That's what WHO tells you? These types of people are frustrating to deal with. Follow the manufacturer's recommendations, not some gun shop "expert." I've never seen 110 grain .38/.357 bullets that were not jacketed, so I believe this ammo would meet the manufacturer's recs.

The salesman might have been thinking of the 357mag titanium j frame,i believe it states 125gr jacketed or heavier.

Bpisler ie right,Thats one reason I wouldn't buy one the one mag load that I like, you can't shoot.Rem semi jacked 110 grain.
Very soft in a lite gun.

Marca,
You don't have anything to be concerned about with a 337PD.
With the .357Magnum, Titanium guns Smith & Wesson suggest not to use any bullet "less" than 120 grains. The reason is, is that with the lighter bullets in .357Magnum you will have higher pressures that will burn or destroy the front of the Titanium cylinder. The only odd thing is on the barrel shroud of my 360Sc it reads " NO LESS THAN 120 GR BULLET", but on my 386PD it dosn't say anything about bullet weight.
When using .38 Special in any S&W Titanium gun you do not have to concern yourself with this problem.
Here is the phone number for Smith & Wesson if you would like to talk to a technician: 800-331-0852.
