From CNN.com:
Also Thursday, the state Senate in New Jersey passed a bill requiring the sale of "smart guns" with sensors that allow them to be fired only by their owners. In a compromise backed by the Republican Senate president, the requirement would go into effect only when such guns become available commercially from at least two manufacturers.
The bill passed, 23-17, and now goes to the state Assembly. Gov. Christie Whitman, a Republican, has said she supports trigger locks and "smart guns," althought she has not publicly said whether she would sign this compromise bill if it clears the Assembly.
