This is my first post on this Forum, I might as well jump right in.
Here we go again. Time to do a "Florio" on them.
NJ COMMISSION TARGETS AMMUNITION
The New Jersey State Commission of Investigation (SCI) today issued a 30 page report alleging that it is too easy for criminals to obtain ammunition in New Jersey and proposing a series of new gun control laws which would require ammunition purchasers to have a New Jersey Firearms ID Card, prohibit ammunition sales without proof of ownership of a firearm matching the caliber to be purchased, and change New Jersey’s Firearms ID Card to digitized photographic format, among other things.
Through support of programs that get tough on criminals, ANJRPC has been proactive in trying to ensure that criminals do not get access to firearms and ammunition. However, the SCI recommendations cast too wide a net that impacts law abiding gun owners, sportsmen and hunters both from New Jersey and from other states (many of whom come to the Garden State simply to hunt and compete, and contribute significantly to New Jersey’s embattled economy). Exemptions for honest gun owners do not appear in the report.
The issuance of the report sets the stage for a battle in the State Legislature on several pending gun control bills. ANJRPC is closely monitoring the status of these bills. Please watch for future updates and action alerts.
The SCI report is available online at http://www.state.nj.us/sci/pdf/Armed and Dangerous.pdf
SCI’s press release announcing the report is available here: http://www.state.nj.us/sci/pdf/AmmoReportPressRelease.pdf
