Can I order an airgun online and have it shipped to my door if I live in NJ. Also, even if it is not legal how would anyone know that I did? Its not like there is a registry or anything and I have a Firearms ID card so how would they know I didn't say go up into NY and get an air rifle?

You are playing with fire here. I would be very surprised if you could even find a website that would ship to NJ. Most websites will have a notice saying something like "this item cannot be shipped to
list of states, nj being one of them). If not there will be a notice saying, "be aware of your local gun laws".
In which case you are assuming blame of breaking the law(if you really are). I lived in nj for a while and after seing some of the things i've seen i'd really advise just buying the thing at a hunting store to play it safe.
