I have a Nikon Prostaff Target EFR 3-9x40AO scope.

On the Nikon Spot On page, the reticule of that scope shows a distance measurement at various magnifications next to the bottom vertical post.

What distance does this number reflect?

I e-mailed Nikon support with this question and the answer I got back from Ed was, "This would be the distance for the top of post."

I have know idea what he's talking about. Distance is the measurement between two points isn't it?

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Nikon PROSTAFF Target EFR

Fritz, The number at the top of the post would be the distance you could use the top post as your aim point. You'll see the number at the crsshair which will show where you have youe zero. The number the bootow would be your max distance for using the post. If you change magnification that number will change. As you go down in magnification the distance will zoom out. Very similar to a camera.
I'm still waiting for one of these scope to put on a nice .17 cal air rifle that I have.

I hope this info helps.
If not drop me a note.
