Nikon Scope

Hey all. I just picked up a new Savage in a 22-250. It came with a Nikon 4-9x40 BDC scope. The scope does me no good at all and i will be replacing it ASAP.
Wondering what model it is and how much i can ask for it. It is a very crisp clean scope, but for my purposes does nothing for me.

Thanks

I was looking at the Savage in 308 with the same scope at Dick's. I asked the about the model of the scope and the clerk could not find and markings on it. Short answer is it is a generic Nikon. I passed on that one (at least for now:)).

I have the same scope that came on a Savage 11 243 that my brother just bought.

There is a model number on the bottom of the scope but Nikon doesn't list the model number and even a Google search turned up nothing.

I assume it's the same as any other Nikon BDC 3-9x40, as it looks identical to a boxed unit, but I can't understand why they use a different (and obscure) model number.

4runner, I believe it's a PROSTAFF 3-9. I'm not sure if it's a nikoplex or BDC reticle. It is Nikon's entry level scope and will serve who ever you sell it to very well.

Peetza- Im not sure which scope you are refering to?.$400.00 rifle?. It is a $700.00 rifle It is the model 11/111 Trophy Hunter XP. The 400.00 ones have a cheaper scope on them.

bman940- It is a BDC scope.

4, who ever you sell that scope to, make sure you tell them about Nikon's Spot On Ballistic Program so they can take advantage of the BDC reticle.
I have zero qualms about using a PROSTAFF scope on anyone in my families deer rifles. All of our hunting rifles carry BDC scopes now, they work and over 1,000,000 folks agree. On the other hand I am not so one sided that I don't realize that we all have to choose the best optic for all our needs.
Drop me a note if I can help out in any way. 4, thanks again for the info.
I have been very impressed with the out of the box accuracy of the Savage rifles I have seen the last 4-5 years.

Peetza-- Thanks- I would not say it is the exspensive model, but all in all real nice. It has the Accutrigger on it. Savage or Scheels has them on sale this month for $499.00 any caliber in that model. I plan on using it for one of my Yote rifles this year. 3 weeks ago i picked up a 243 in the Axis ( cheap) model and am very impressed so far with the accuracy with 85 gn serria in it. ( Told the wife that was going to be my Yote rifle too:D ) Then this one came along-Told her that was going to be my Yote rifle too:p. Now next 2 weeks i want to get the 7mm-08, what can i tell her that is for?. Yotes at a great distance?.
I started buying rifles late in life (47 yrs old ). So i have a long ways to go to catch up with most of you guys. I have purchased 5 this year alone, but still want more.

bman940-Thanks for the info on the program, will have to look it up and see what it's all about. Yes i agree with you on Savage. All 7 of my rifles are Savage now. I tried the rest and all of them shoot good, but to me Savage shoots the best. Personnel opinion i know but, each to there own.

I have a Remington Sendero in 220 Swift with a Nikon and it kills Coyotes at 300 yards but it's a 20 year old 24. I use Kahles for hunting big game, but Nikon scopes are just as good in my opinion.

I'm a believer in Nikon scopes.
I had a 4x40 buckmaster on my slug gun for probably 12yrs.
It broke last year so I sent it to Nikon to get fixed. Well I guess it was unfixable.
So I was sent a new 3x9x40 buckmasters because the 4x is no longer available.
I was disappointed cause I really liked the straight 4x on my slug gun.
But Nikon did stand behind their warrenty.
I have a prostaff 4x12x40 for sale in the for sale section on here.
The only reason I'm selling it is cause I had it on a Rem. 308 that's since been replaced by a 3x9x50 buckmasters.

Look around just inside the eye piece, if you can see the famous Prostaff screw then you know what you have.

Those go for about $169 at Wally world. They are on par with a lot of $100 scopes. So are about $69 over priced. Yes, I bought one and promptly took it back when compared, some of my sub $100 .22 scopes had better glass.

The cheap scope companies are better then Nikon at making cheap scopes because they can't charge any extra for the name.;)

I have a Nikon Prostaff scope 3-9x40 bdc on my AR and I like it very much. I would consider buying yours.
