With fine cross hairs, will be used mainly for 100 to 300 yds target shooting.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of this scope ?

I like the higher magnification myself, I have a 24 power fixed that I shoot at 100 yds, makes for very precise aiming and with being able to power that scope down I dont see any disadvantage.

A lot depends on the rifle. A 50mm front ocular is a big heavy thing(20.5 ounces) and will require high rings to keep it off the barrel. And with higher magnification comes smaller fields of view(4.2 ft at 100 on 24X). That's not a horrible thing for a target rifle like it can be with a varmint rifle. Really high magnification lets you see your heart beating and the wobbling of a big heavy scope.
That daft reticle won't help one way or the other. BDC scopes never have worked well.
