I have the chance to get either of these two for half price but having a hard time deciding. One of them will be mounted on a Savage 110 30-06 mostly used for targets, but someday might get used to hunt deer.First is a Nikon 3x9x40 Buckmasters that costs $199.93 at Wal-Mart.The other is a Simmons 3x12x44 model 800600 and it costs $189.83 also at Wal-Mart.They are being deleted from their inventory so they will sell them 50% off very soon.I know.....their not Luepolds, but i am a rookie shooter with maybe 80 shots total thru a centerfire rifle. With the Savage's "package deal" scope and gun, i am already doing pretty good but was told get a decent scope and it will help.So.....would you get the Nikon or Simmons.Any replies would greatly be appreciated!!!!!!

get the nikon and stay away from the savage.

simmons are very prone to failure in the field.
i saw this first hand again this year with a buddys gun on a elk hunt.the nitrogen leaked out causing it to fog up.

I just purchased a Leapers scope from http://www.cheaperthandirt.com and it is a 2.5-10x56mm. I bought it for $89.00 plus shipping and handling. I cant wait to get it, it is going on my G3 rifle. I would recommend to order this scope, it has a huge objective lens and it is priced much less than the smaller ones at Wallyworld.

Thanks

Weaver GrandSlam...

Not too long ago, my son purchased what he thought was a "good deal". It was a Simmons 8-32x 44MM for $ 206.00 NIB.

I thought it would be a good deal and I told him to pick it up for me.

I mounted it on my Remington 700VS in .22.250 and took it to the range.

This Simmons scope had the worst optics I've seen in my entire life. Haze, parallax error that simply could not be adjusted out, even with full AO run.

To make a long story short, I simply boxed it up and sent the scope back to Simmons Outdoors (They are now a division of Blount, Inc.). I included a check for $ 7.00 S/H

Last Friday I received a box back from Simmons. When I opened it, there was a Weaver GrandSlam 6-20x 40mm.

Not exactly the same "specs" but man is this a sweet looking scope. Really fine reticle lines with center dot.

This weekend, I'll take it to the range and see what it does with my own loads.

Has anyone had any experience with the Weaver GrandSlam? This is their latest model I believe: Stock # 800476.

Point Blank, check this place out for scope prices:

http://www.swfa.com

They've got the Simmons scopes you mentioned for $99.95. They also carry lots of other brands too. I purchased a scope from them last year. The service was top notch. SamC
