Kind of a pointless post, but good therapy for me…
As I was drifting off to sleep the night before last, I was watching a news anchor on ABC make a fool out of himself as he tried to moderate a town hall discussion with Israeli and Palestinian people. He showed excerpts of 2+ hours before the meeting where they tried to ensure that no security people brought guns into the building. No guns in the building… No guns… No guns… (That, hanging around here, and my general paranoia probably brought on my nightmares.)
I was at a huge public gathering. The lights suddenly went out, and we were herded into a stadium. We were told that there were some drastic changes, and to ensure that everybody would be "safe" and unarmed, we would be "asked" to walk through metal detectors, and onward to goodness knows what. I was carrying my handgun, and I made the decision to run and save my hide. The people in the crowd, who undoubtedly were going to their death, pointed me out saying, "Catch him, he's got a gun!"
I eluded capture and linked up with other individuals who were going to fight the establishment. I walked the streets branded a criminal, constantly watching out for those who would arrest me or turn me in. When I fired my gun, the trigger pull was an impossible 40+ pounds. I finally hit the hills, and was running, shooting, dodging, hiding… Alone… No backup, no help…
It scared the beans out of me, and that happens rarely. It was all so real, and what made it even scarier was that it was all so possible. No backup and no help was a frightening thought. So if you are ever in the ND or SD area and need any support, look for somebody tall and skinny wearing glasses, cowboy boots, a crew cut, and probably a calculator in his pocket. I'll be glad to back you up.
