Night Sights

I am planning on getting a set of night sights for my 1911, and am curious on input as to who makes the best ones on the market. My first feeling is to get a set of Trijicon's, but I've also had Meprolight on the mind lately. Anyone have experience with one or both?

I found that when I use a good flashligt I dont really need night sights I can readily pickup the sights as they are behind the light beam and silohette quite well. I also prefer the laser if the lights go out at least I can turn it on and off at will. I know batteries fail and things go wrong but if I cant see and I cant aim I dont want to be lit-up like a glow worm. The other issue is on a hot night It looks a little funny to see that glow through a thin Tshirt.

My eyes aren't the greatest and the Mepro's dots seem a little bigger and clearer than the Trijicon's to me. The Novak's are nice and clear too but the main thing I like about them is their lower profile and snag-free design.

"Best" is largely a matter of preference. I have Novak 3 dot on one my 1911s and they work just fine. T'were I to get new ones, I have discovered a preference for the Heine two dot ("straight eight") method; I find them quicker on target (if you're off, you'll be off vertically as opposed to horizontally on 3 dot type sights; humans are normally taller than they are wide).

Novak, Heine, Trijicon, Meprolight- hard to go wrong with any of them as long as you find them usable.

I like the Ameriglos. I have green front yellow rears on mine (with white outlines) and they're nice. I think trijicon supplies the tritium for them.

3 sets of MEPROLIGHTS and they are excellent. I have them on 3 of my revolvers and I will put a set on every gun I buy from now on.
