Night sights for Sigs - a little help please...

My 2 Sigs (239 & 226) are begging for night sights but I have a few questions.

It seems to be common knowledge that the Meprolite (sp?) are of a good quality and price. I also like the white rings around the active material.

How do I ensure that I install the proper height front sight for an accurate POI?

Also, can I buy diectly from Meprolite?

Thanks,

I prefer Trijicons but Mepros do fine in a pinch. I have used the standard Trijicons and Mepro's without any problem of my POI changing.

Meprolight will send you another front sight if your POI changes drastically on installation of one of their sight sets. While this has not happened to me (have three sets of Mepros on various handguns, including a P228) I've known two fellows who have asked for new front sights and had them sent, no question or problem.

Recently I bought a set of Trijicons for a handgun that Mepro doesn't currently cover. The paperwork included a note that they would also swap front sights if needed, but fortunately that was not the case.

I'm sure this varies from gun to gun, depending on the installation method (Beretta slides have to be sent to the dealer to be drilled, for instance) so I'd check the web site of the manufacturer to see if their warranty covers this for your circumstances.

What height sights are on your pistols now? (There should be a number, probably an 8 or 6 stamped on the front of the rear sight and on the left side of the front sight). If your current sights give you the desired POI, then order the same height sights. Elevation of POI shouldn't change significantly with a sight change as long as the numbers on the sights are the same.

Chris, I just put a set of Trijicons on a P220 that had 8/8 sights. The pistol now shoots 2" high at 25 yds now. According to the armorer's manual, changing the front to a 6 would drop it to POA exactly...

P220s used to come 8/6, IIRC, although mine are all 8/8. Trijicon makes two sets, 8/8 and 8/6. The 8/6s are labelled for the P220 and P229...

Kinda looks like I should have installed the P220/P229 (8/6) set, rather than the P226/P228/etc. (8/8) set -- ? -- even though the pistol had 8/8s on it!?! I can swap the front sight, of course, but before I do that I'd be interested to hear what your experience with P220s and Trijicons (or other aftermarket sights) has been. Any thoughts?

The only night sights I've worked with are the Sig sights. Our old P220s had 8/8 sights, which we replaced with 8/8 night sights and POI didn't change.

I have Trijicons on both my SIG's and they shoot quite accurately with them. They are much brighter than the Mep's I have on my Glock.

I have a set of meprolights installed on my Sig 229, and I didn't have any change in POI. The sights have been great and I don't have any complaints... Interestingly, I had always used Trijicons up to this point, but I decided to try out the Meprolights... I never had a complaint with either brand...

Thanks for your replies.

has anyone used the Ashley Outdoor night sights? They are night sights, correct?

Any opinions on then vs. the traditional 3-dot system?

I should've mentioned they make a Tritium version of their sights. You can't miss that big dot front in that shallow vee rear.I like 'em alot.I can align them quicker than conventional sights. They did a beautiful job installing them, too.(my slide had to be re-finished on that S&W 457).Bo Wallace is the gunsmith there.A gentleman.
