Night sights for a GP-100

I just picked up a Ruger GP-100 w/3" barrel. The front sight disappears in low light conditions. Unfortunate since low light will be it most likely use in self-defense situations.

My question: any recommendations on a higher visibility from site?

Second question: It apears the front sight is held in place with a drift pin. Is changing out the front sight something I can do or should it go to a smith?

Thanks in advance.

Yeah, I had one too. I looked at the options and decided that it wasn't worth it. I traded the gun away. I couldn't get used the the rear notch.

The Triicon nights for the SP/GP's are very small but bright enough to pick up on even in low light situations. Id try them out...I got mine for 35$ somewhere on the net and just had a smith drop it in for me...10$. It still likes 125 gr rounds for proper POA/POI just like the OEM did.
Shoot well

Maybe I should clarify "kinda small". The sight is the same size and shape of the factory sight on the SP, the dot is rather small but like Mr. Larson pointed out it does show up OK in the dark.

I also have the 3 in GP100. Additionally I own 2 sp101's which I installed the trijicon front night sight on. In looking at the GP100 the front sight blade seems to be noticeably bigger than the sp101 and if the sp101 blade went in I think your point of impact would change drastically. I know that trijicon and IWI will drill out your front blade and insert a night sight vial. If I remeber I was quoted around 70 bucks. The Ashley big dot looks interesting for the GP.I already have the big dot front night sight on a Kahr and with my 50+ eyes I can pick it up quickly day or night. Unfortunately in looking all over the web I dont find anyone making a direct replacement night sight blade for the GP.

The GP100 3 inch does not have the same sighting system as the 4 and 6 in do. The 3in has a pinned ramp and can not be used with the available front sights for the 4 or 6..............unless you want to pay a custom shop a lot of money to modify your gun.

If interested in the Ashley System I would call them and see if they offer a front sight for the GP fixed sight model. They seem to have a number of sighting systems for various guns that are not listed. A friend did this for
his CZ compact.
