I spent $1600 on my first night vision scope (USNV gen 2+) and I wasn't happy with it. I ate a big loss selling it too. I don't think you're going to be happy with a $300 scope. I'd wait until you can afford at least a 2nd generation scope.
I've got gen 3 stuff now but wasted a lot of money on crap along the way.
