NICS to go down on weekends

Here in Indiana the state starting august 25 the NICS will go down on sat and sunday. The big deal is people buying guns at gun shows that don't have a CHL. If you have a CHL then you can buy without a check. There is a loophole that the FBI can do the NICS check, but we all know that the FBI doesn't destroy records. Rumor has it texas is next.

Just a heads up to my fellow hoosiers!

hoosierboy, is this a rumor or for real? I don't want it to happen in Indiana, much less Texas.
Even though, this is a logical step for the socialists to take, and was only a matter of time.

Well it won't be the NICS system that goes down. NICS is just a 1-800 number that you call and they do the check. If they are saying it is going to go down in your state it is the fault of the state not the NICS.

this is real for indiana the rumor is for texas We have already called them and the funny thing it is a day before the indy 1500 gun show LIBERALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hoosierboy,I am also a Hoosier product. When is the next 1500 gun show, since you mentioned it? PJ

What I think Hoosierboy is trying to say is that not all states suscribe to the FBI NICS, some states have their own instant check program. There's nothing to stop them from shutting their own computer system on the weekends. It sounds like a back-door approach to stopping those 'evil' gun show sales.

Watch your back!

Remember, just because you are not paranoid doesn't mean they are not out to get you!

I think this will just promote more sales without checks. For what people put into having a booth/table at a show, can they afford to lose sales?

It makes sense that the anti's would pull something like that. The indy 1500 is a big gun show, I'll bet they sell 500-1000 handguns on the weekend of the show. Although I'm a little confused about how anti's in Indiana can shut down a national 800 number.

On the otherside of the coin, why not just get the little permit to carry? I work with a canadian citizen who applied for, and got his permit to carry here in Indiana. If a person is clean they will automatically give that person the permit. With the permit you can buy on the spot, no background check. :) :)

I don't know what the laws are in Indiana, but sounds like the state wants to get itself into some trouble, trying to legislate without a vote.

Ok sorry to confuse everyone the state police here in Indiana do the checks the law is if they don't they can do it through the FBI. The problem is that the FBI doesn't destroy records. Now if people have a CHL in Indiana they don't need to have a background check for a purchase. Of course, any people don't have them and then a check would be required.

I hope i have confused everyone. That what the concern is.

As you were!

We used to have an FFL and it expired about 10 months ago. We got a letter from the Indiana State police and I have confirmed this from another dealer.

Sorry to deviate OT a little here, but there seem to be a lot of Hoosiers here. Is anyone going to Indy from the North (down I-65)? I live about 47 miles west of you, hoosierboy (65 & 80/94).

Coinneach, One state cannot force NICS to shut down.

Probably not, but one call from an anti gun state AG or governor to a anti gun fed AG or Prez probably could.
