NICS and MMM

I purchased my first AR15 today in honor of the MMM. I have been deliberating among several rifles for about 6 months.

COINCIDENTALLY, the NICS system is down for 'routine maintenance' until 9:00 tonight or maybe noon tommorrow.

Any bets on whether the system is back up before monday? I'd love to go shooting tommorrow with a new gun, but I'm not planning on it.

I have worked in the IT field for over 25 years. We always scheduled our routine maintenance for off hours.

HMMMM.

My company, too.

But we are talking about a government agency, here... "Work on the weekend? What's that?"

I hope you've got a backup gun to go shooting with this weekend. I'll be surprised if NICS is back up before Sunday, late. :(

so if all sales must legally complete a NICS check, and the system is compromised, what options do we have?

any?

Is this a taste of how they can end all gun sales?

dz;

After just watching the smug look on the talking head on the 11:00 o'clock news announcing the NICS 'software failure' and claiming it probably won't be back up until monday, I fear you're correct. The thought had occurred to me when I made the post.

How easy it is to stop gun sales - and it's the fault of the computer.

Assuming NICS is back up sometime next week, I will have to accelerate my purchase plans.

Those rotten b****rds!

A local (Denver) radio talk show host had called a coupla of his cop buddies who told him that "their" NICS system (NCIC ?) was up & runnin' - no problems.

Perhaps they're using the CBI check for just local/state background info ....

Lab,

Could be wrong, but I think CO uses a state run system (CBI) instead of the Fed NICS.

Guess what folks, the NICS being down isn't going to stop me. As a Texas CHL holder I can walk into a texas gun store pay my money and walk right out with my gun. God I love Texas. Screw the Feds, I'd bet my next paycheck that this was planned in advance...

It does sorta have that Clintonesque quality to it, doesn't it?

CO had, by CO exec order restarted the CBI checks in addtion to the fed NCIS. Too, the CO Legislature passed the measure & The Guv will (or already has) signed it.

We get to go through 2X databases to be allowed to exercise our rights. :(

From a gunshop owner/TRT founder, all CO firearms sales through FFLs is down till the NCIS is back up.

I don't think it's the MMM, I think it's all the support of licencing.

I mean, with NICS perpetually down, wouldn't both purchasers and sellers alike want licencing?

Battler.

I work for a federal agency and ALL upgrades which would affect productivity are performed after hours. This was either emergency work or intentional. My guess: it was intentional. It's a soft kill on gun sales: they can't do it legitimately so they undermine through use of an accident.

My purchase plan just got accelerated as well.
