Nickel Plating - Caswell system

Hey I have what to some may seem a silly question. I have a pretty beat-up S&W model 10 - one of the cop trade-ins from Buds - and I have been thinking about using the Caswell home nickel-plating system to plate it.

I've read some threads about the Caswell system and it seems like (for the most part) folks have had good luck with it.

My question is this: what level of disassembly do I need to achieve to plate a Model 10? Can I just dip the thing? or, does it need to be detail-stripped?
Thanks!

The gun has to be completely disassembled. Bore and cylinders have to be plugged. The surface has to be refinished. Plating a beat up gun will give you a nickel plated beat up gun. Plating does not cover flaws and surface imperfections.

Bill thanks for the reply. I enjoy reading your thoughts. I guess "beat up" was a poor description. As a cop trade-in, the finish is rather worn but there are not a lot of dents/dings in the metal.

My next question, Bill, is this: is the detail disassembly/reassembly of a model 10 something that an average joe-twelve-pack like me might be successful at?
