nickel brass for a coonan 357mag

Hi Guys

Anybody reload nickel brass for the 357 mag Coonan. I know alum is a big no no for this gun but I'm assuming nickel shouldn't be a problem. Thanks for any feedback

I would read the instructions; I have no reservations about loading nickeled cases. I do have problems with nickeled cases when case forming, when going from 270, 280 and 30/06 to 35 Whelen I split 50% of the necks on nickeled cases. I have formed 200 new/never fired cases to 35 Whelen and 338/06 without splitting one neck.

I too have used nickel plated brass in my Coonan without problem.
Why do you ask? I don't remember seeing any specific warning from Coonan re: nickel plated ammo. Sure, the usual don't use reloaded ammunition but that is an industry standard to cover their azzes.:D

Thanks for the replies. I thought so. I just found 300 nickel cases in the back of my brass draw and I really don't have that many brass cases so this will help and I won't have to buy brass. Alum cases are used in the blazer line of ammo(so I'm told, never used the stuff) which I'm told is not reloadable.
By the way the coonan is a fantastic pistol. Saved over a year to get it. Thanks guys

And why is aluminum a no-no? Is that from Coonan? Just curious.

I don't know if Coonan has said anything specific about it, or not. My warning against using aluminum cases in the Coonan (or the Desert Eagle, or any other semi auto .357) is partly personal experience and partly the warning from others who have tried them.

The aluminum case stuff works fine in revolvers, and well enough in 9mm & .45ACP, but those cases are "short" compared to the .357 Mag.

It appears that the difference in the friction of brass vs. aluminum, case length, AND the strength of the Al .357 case rim make a difference. I had jams and failure to eject the one time I tried them, case rims got kind of bent and chewed up during extraction, and I have heard from others about extractors tearing through the rims of aluminum .357 cases.

I've got no studies, no empirical proof, just the belief that for a semi auto .357 Mag pistol, aluminum cases are something to avoid.
