Nice weather today. Good day for a Rolling Block

So I did.

Found a guy who was very motivated to sell his Remington Rolling Block in .43 Spanish.

This is the Spanish model which I am pretty sure started life as a rifle.

No saddle ring. Swivels on the stock for the sling.

You can see that the

Forestock is pretty well hammered.

Both of the swivels are missing but at least the barrel band and the fitting for the stock sling swivel are still present.

But the receiver is as nearly perfect in operation as it can be and the bore is absolutely pristine for its age.

I gave 225.00 for it.

I am almost ashamed

but not enough to take it back.

Just got off the phone with the Womack operation. He shared some info.

Spanish manufacture but not at the Oviedo factory. Started life as a carbine and not converted as I originally assumed. He told me the forestock is is likely not original but a repair done in Spain while the rifle was still in service.

He told me that a rifle in this condition would be worth 700.00. He could not speculate on the value of a carbine. He also thought 225.00 was a good price.

He was not surprised that there is no serial number on it.

He estimated the date of manufacture as 1880 give or take three years.

This guy has a Taurus 1911...

....That he only wants 450.00 for as well.

....New in box 58 Cal musket from Pedersoli - $500.00.

Ne needs money.

I'd probably pass on the Taurus unless its NIB and then only for resale. The Pedersoli is a good deal tho.
