Anybody have a nice write up on the select slug procedure that I could give someone. I google but got just a 1000 mentions of the drill. Or know a good link?

Thanks.

One of the key factors not mentioned in that thread (but often mentioned by Mr. Lapin) is that often the shotgun is downloaded by 1 from it's capacity. This allows space in the magazine for the transition to the slug. (EDIT: I STAND CORRECTED. It's there in post 10, if I'd read a little further :)).

Now if you have a 4 shot 870 with 4 shells in the magazine and none in the chamber. You rack the round when trouble rears it's head and you have buckshot in and space for one left behind that you could toss a slug in and rack and go if necessary.

Now if the trouble that rears it's head required slugs from the start there's argument that you should have only started with 3 in the magazine to begin with. In that case you could load a slug in the magazine and rack.

My 870 stays loaded with 6 in the mag (full capacity) with 5 Brenneke's in the sidesaddle.
