As the presidential election draws closer, the issue of gun control weighs heavily on the minds of many Americans.. At stake is the future of firearms legislation and how such legislation will impact the daily lives of ordinary citizens. Many pro Second Amendment organizations are helping to lead the charge against media misinformation and bias. One such organization is “Mothers Arms.”
Mothers Arms is a relatively new organization that strives to educate women about their options with regard to self-defense. A non-profit organization, Mothers Arms was created to “inform, educate and support the development of self-reliant women nationwide who consider it a fundamental right and responsibility to protect their children, their property and themselves from human aggression and assault.”
The founder, Alicia A. Wadas, has personally witnessed the devastating effects of sexual assault and has committed herself to training women how to protect themselves with lethal and non-lethal force. “As mothers, we can and should take action to safeguard our children's lives and ensure their secure future,” says Alicia. “Mothers Arms advocates that women educate themselves and prepare to take an active role in the protection of those they hold dear. What we learned from our parents we now teach to our children: how to avoid hot stoves, swim in deep waters and weather natural disasters from fires to tornadoes. But are we really equipping our children, and ourselves, to face menacing strangers and aggressors, crime and violence? To protect what is ours safely and effectively, we also must learn and then teach about awareness, self-defense and proper response to threatening situations.” Mothers Arms offers timely information, expert advice and quality resources for women to make informed decisions and take meaningful action to embrace the role of protector. The organization also provides access to personal defense and rescue products, and the training and education in their safe and effective use. Mothers Arms supplies news of opinions, events and current legislation that impact the right of women to employ instruments of protection.
As Founder of Mothers Arms, Alicia Wadas brings proven capabilities as a business entrepreneur to successfully grow organizations. Alicia began her business career as Public Relations/Special Events Director for March of Dimes, raising nearly $1 million in annual contributions. During the next 12 years, she was co-owner of the third largest advertising agency in Phoenix, Arizona. Since 1994, Alicia has been a business strategist, consulting for both the private and public sectors. Alicia is a certified Instructor of Pistol and Personal Protection and has trained with top instructors at leading schools. She has also taught her sons and her daughter to use firearms and other methods of self-defense.
Alicia’s media involvement included an invitation to appear on ABC’s Good Morning America last May. Alicia, one of seven pro self-defense women to appear on the show, advocated the right and responsibility women have to protect themselves and their children. If you would like to contact a Mothers Arms coordinator, check the Mother Arms web site, for a list of state coordinators.
