Howdy folks.

Long story short: I went to take care of a sick family member last fall for a period of time. They just came to visit this week and dropped off a present to show their gratitude for helping out:

A nice brand new SS prohunter 15" barrel in .243. WHAT A SWEET GIFT!!

Above it is a 15" .308 with a muzzle tamer in french grey by www.eabco.com, wearing a 2-6 bushnell 3200

I already took it out yesterday and with iron sights got a very nice 1.5" group at 50 yards. with a leupold 2.5 - 8 on it I am sure it'll do better than that at 100 yards.

NICE! Me likey!
I enjoy my 308 barrel but really should drop a brake on it. You're a lucky man and apparently a good person too.

Oh, and nice socks!

:D

I just got...

A nifty Remington 521 junior target master, 1950 production, with factory Lyman peep site from a buddy. He's a contractor and is big into tactical stuff(AR's Glocks). a customer gave him the 521 as a tip and he gave it to me!

The Leupold 2.5-8 pistol scope arrived today and they are off to get mounted. I'll post more pics and a range report when I get a chance to get to the range!!!

Mike very nice gift and it's nice to see things come back to you even though nothing was expected. That is the essence of a good deed.

I also have an encore and I went the other way with a walnut version. I'll be taking it to the range as soon as I get it back fom Mr.Gunsmith putting a Nikon prostaff 3-9X-40 on the .223 hvy rifle barrel. I also bought a pistol forend and grip and my thoughts are turning to a .17 hmr pistol barrel sometime around the end of June. I don't hunt much anymore so I confine myself to the pistol and rifle barrels that share ammo. And yes I have a wish list for the future.

Awesome score man!!

I shot one of those a few weeks ago at the range that a guy was shooting. His was setup with a .223 barrel. Thing was dead accurate, and I loved the trigger. I shot at 50 yards(w/ a rest) and was less than an inch from a dead bullseye.

Congrats!

Doyle, thanks for the link, I used to lurk on the forum a while ago and you are right that they have a wealth of info there. Iv'e owned contenders and encores for going on 3 decades now and have more barrels than I care to admit. Still, a nice new gift like the SS .243 barrel was very cool. It is now at my local smith's shop getting a new leupold 2.5-8 scope put on it.

Spent some time at the range today with the .308 barrel shown above. Now I remember why I only rarely shoot it with heavy loads :eek::eek:

My head is still ringing from the concussion of the shots - and that was with plugs and muffs on at the same time!!

Anyone want a .308 win barrel? I have a feeling that the .243 will be my new deer/ varmint barrel as when it is set up as a pistol.

Got the leupold 2.5 - 8 VX-III mounted and had a nice day at the range with my latest barrel:

The mount is a TC Duo ring that has been refinished in grey duracote.

I was hoping that it would shoot like all my other TC barrels ( 1 - 1.5 " at 100 yards ) and I was not disappointed!! Once sighted in I got two three shot groups under an inch with 95 Gr accutips.

looks like this will be my new deer barrel come fall 2009!!

Very cool. I'm sure you deserve it. I know very little about those expect they pack a punch. Everytime I see one I think of the fat guy on youtube....
