NH CCW...

Yes, a newbie with a question:

I'm considering getting a New Hampshire non-resident CCW for several reasons--a friend lives there & I'd like to visit; I'd like to take the Sigarms knife course & they want you to have a badge, CCW, FFL or security gun permit; if CCW reform ever makes its way to California, it might help.

Anyway, in reviewing their nonresident permit application (http://www.state.nh.us/nhsp/plupr.html)
[it's a PDF file], it says you must either send a copy of your home state CCW, or a letter from your local police agency certifying that permits are not needed in your state, as well as your being of good character.

Am I reading this wrong, or does this appear to be intended solely for citizens of Vermont? Any input welcomed.

Nope, you've read it correctly.

It officially applies only to residents of Ver-mount.

As California is technically a 'May Issue' state, you will need to be a current holder of a California CCW permit.

However, if i were you, i'd try to call and talk to someone in the NH State Police about the matter. Perhaps there is some gray area you could exploit.

Also, call and talk to someone at Sig, and make sure they understand your predicament. They're good people, i'll bet they'd be willing to help.

"[Even if there would be] few tears shed if and when the Second Amendment is held to guarantee nothing more than the state National Guard, this would simply show that the Founders were right when they feared that some future generation might wish to abandon liberties that they considered essential, and so sought to protect those liberties in a Bill of Rights. We may tolerate the abridgement of property rights and the elimination of a right to bear arms; but we should not pretend that these are not reductions of rights." -- Justice Scalia 1998

USP45: Many thanks for your reply--thought I was losing my verbal comprehension.

Unfortunately, Sigarms will only give out a main switchboard number, which connects to a mailbox for requesting catalogs. As far as I can tell, there is no e-mail link at the Academy site (finances & time prevent a trip there this year, anyway)--hitting "contact" gives you a text list of address & phone number.
