Next Shotgun?

I want to buy new shotgun. I want a 20 gauge. But I am not sure if I want a semi-auto or an over/under. I know each has advantages and disadvantage. So, which should I get? I really can't decide.

One more thing. You pump fans please don't post something about the new Mossberg Wondermatic 3000 pump shotgun selliing for $1.99 at Walmart. I am not interested. I am trying to decide between a self loader and a stack barrel.

What's the intended purpose? And price range?

One can get a better new auto for say $1K than a new O/U for that price.

Do you have any physical limitations like arthritis and/or cross dominance?

Re:davemcc

My main use for this shotgun will be casual bird hunting. Our local gunshop has one of those Russian over/unders at a price less then most autos. A good friend of mine is much more knowledgable of scatter guns then I am. He said those Russian shotguns are not too bad.

One reason I am looking at 20's is that I have been recently diagnosed with a slipped disk in my back. That is also making me lean towards a self-loader to further reduce felt recoil. The drawback though is that you then have to bend over to pick up spent hulls.

Our gunshop also has a very nice 20GA side-by-side. Unfortunately, I can't hit a flock of barns with one.

Roy: If recoil is a problem because of your back I think the time tested and proven Rem 1100's might be the best choice. Depending on range, maybe even a 28 might work for you. Good luck with the disc too...

new shotgun

i just bought a new spartan20 gague sxs
practly no recoil at all, selective trigger with four chokes, switch to extractors or ejectors imported by remington ,nice checkered wood .
I also had a fractured disk in my back and have no problems ...take a look at sparten on the remington website .

no recoil because it weighs 30 lbs lol. no seriously, I have a 12ga spartan o/u and that thing weighs almost 8lbs. those things are tanks. I got a 20ga beretta for the feild as my arms are getting bad and boy is it a dream. really don' tnotice recoil when shooting so few shots as you would in the feild.

Remington 1100 LW (light weight) 20 ga would be a great choice. I have one that I bought for my daughter to shoot when she is old enough. It is reliable, reasonable weight, and very little felt recoil.

Take a look at CDNN's 20th. anniversary sale. Stefano Fausti 20 ga. 6 1/2 lbs. single selective trigger, 3" chambers and 5 chokes. Italian quality at $499.00
