Next model Gen 5 Glock

Just wondering if any information has been released on which Glock model will be next to get the Gen 5 treatment? I'm assuming the 22 and 23 would be a safe bet, but haven't kept up on that rumor mill.

Some (somewhat irrelevant) side question(s): which model would you like to see made into a Gen 5? Is it enough of an improvement over Gen 4 to wait for an updated version in your eyes? And, finally, were any Gen 3s not updated to Gen 4?

Glock claims a better barrel and better trigger in the gen5 that translates to better accuracy.

I think you have to be pretty set in your ways or already happy with a purchased gen4 to not say go gen5.

Not sure I follow this. Glock is still producing Gen 3s in addition Gen 4s. Whether they keep doing that now that there are Gen 5s too will be interesting to see.

I see the new Gen5 19 at all the LGS’s for $599.00. What is this new one really buying me over my own perfectly good even great Gen3 19? A slightly better trigger perhaps although the trigger on my Gen3 is very good and I hit my targets very well with it. Perhaps a more accurate barrel? Like I said, I can hit my targets very well with this Gen3 and I think there’s a fine line between the supposed increased accuracy of a new barrel design and the capability of the shooter. Rather than get about $200 trade value for my Gen3 towards the barely discounted Gen5, I think I’ll stay on the fence with the new Gen5 until the price drops or these Gen5’s start showing up on the used gun shelves.

I bought my new Gen 5 out the door for $550. I felt the price was fair but nothing to rave about. I like it overall. I'm not sure if it's a dramatic improvement over the Gen 3s I also have, but if someone didn't have a Glock and was looking to get one I'd probably recommend the Gen 5.

JD,
I think the main things would be absence of finger grooves and some lefty- friendly things...like reversible mag release and maybe lefty- friendly slide lever. But I'm not sure about that last one. Whether those features are important to you, of course, I couldn't say.

Tunnelrat, I think he meant were any Gen 3 guns left out of the 4th gen.

Such as the 17L, 24, 36. I think that's all of them.

I've handled but not shot a Gen 5 G19. It seemed nice enough, and I liked some of the features, like the rounded nose. However, I won't be trading in my known-to-be-reliable Gen 4 for one.

Cool. I was just a little curious about that. With the single stack craze, I could maybe see them making a gen 5 36 eventually.

I have a perfectly serviceable Gen 4 26. I see no need to upgrade it if ever offered in Gen 5. But if I was buying a new 20 or 21, I'd probably get the Gen 5 version (again, if ever offered) just to get the factory night sights version. Based on the quote above, however, it seems some models don't get the "next gen upgrade" every time one comes around.

They seem to cut the least popular models. The 17L and 24 won't fit in the IPSC or whatever competition sizing box (the 34 and 35 took their places), and most people ditched the 36 and got the 30 because it's just a hair wider and holds more rounds.

I don't see the other models going anywhere. Except maybe if Glock accepts the 45 GAP as the failure it is and discontinues it.

I’d tell them to shoot the M&P M2.0 Compact against the Gen5 19, then pick the one that works the best for their intended purpose. And there isn’t a bad choice to be made between the 2:cool:

I hope they offer up a Gen 5 model 40, wanting a 10mm and the 40 offers the options that I want but I hate the feel of Gen 3-4 Glocks.

Too bad Smith and Wesson doesn't produce a 10mm M&P.

I'm interested in a compact 10mm, and the G29 seems to be the only one that fits that bill for me. I'm not a "Glock Guy", but have shot many and have always liked them. The local gun store has both a gen 4 and gen 5 G29. Is there a significant difference between the two aside from the cosmetics?

I think you mean they have a gen 3 and 4 Glock 29, as the gen 5 29 isn't out yet. Between 3 and 4, I'd get the 4. Due to the grip texture and mag release.

I had been waiting on the Gen V Glock 23 to come out myself. I did some reading and it looks like the 17 and 19 are the only Gen V's planned for the near future. Law Enforcement is going back to the 9mm in droves. The 40 S&W is on the back burner with the switch back to the 9mm.

When I found this out, I went ahead and swapped in my Gen IV G27 for a new Gen IV G23. I have decided that more shootable was more important that being a little smaller/more concealable. I conceal carry the G23 just fine.

I would much rather have a Gen V G23 however. No Finger Grooves, Magazine Well Flare, Higher Grip, and a few other refinements of the G19M. They will surely offer Gen V's in 40 S&W sooner or later.

My 2 Cents is that there is nothing special about the Gen 5 Glocks to me it looks like a unfinished product. the slide to frame lines look off as the body lines dont really match one another like on Gen 1-4. Glock at this point in my opinion Rely on the fame and its follower base to keep sales up with the new model but in reality nothing new or improved about it. I will even go as far as saying the Glock Gen 3's are the best in my opinion as glock actually did upgrades to improve from its previous models with better reinforcements in key areas. Gen 4 was released and basically really the only upgrade was the trigger bar in the form of the added unnecessary nub on the side of the firing pin block leg which causes more drag on the firearm parts as you pull the trigger. it was put on there to supposedly prevent the trigger bars firing pin block disconnector from going off course which was never a problem with glock gen 1 - 3 but some genius had the bright idea. hence why you switch gen 4 trigger bars to a Gen 3 trigger bar and automatically it has a smoother trigger pull. Now im not a Glock hater i own many Glocks and love them, the are very reliable but i dont like the unnecessary hype for the gen 5 when they have not done anything to improve on the existing platform. on a side note the M.O.S models are awesome because they are optic ready and actually was a good upgrade. but overall Glock needs to step up there game if they want to keep changing Generation models and actually make a statement. Just my 2 Cents as a former Gunsmith
