Starting to look for a new 9mm. Want it for CC in summer, so want something a little smaller.

Looking at these:

Kahr PM9/CM9
Glock 43
Ruger LC9s
M&P Shield

Thoughts?

Oh man, take your pick, nice choices you have there. I have a CM9 and absolutely love it, its priced right as well. The Glock is excellent but I am not convinced it is worth the price premium over the others. The Shield? Not my cup of tea when the others are smaller but thats just personal preference for a CC firearm, it is a fine handgun. I have no experience with the Ruger but I am a big Ruger fan.

I just picked up a shield and do like it

Never touched the kahr or the Taurus

The Glock and the shield both felt like good quality guns, were close in size (glock was a tiny bit smaller) but the decision will probably depend on grip preference

The glock is slightly more square with a bit more of a grip angle. Loved the sights

I got the shield simply because I liked how it felt in my hand

Take a look on yourself tube. There are a bunch of videos comparing the two

Take a look at the Taurus 709 slim. They are reliable and can be found for around $200.00.

I'll check it out.

I've looked at a bunch of youtube videos, but figured I also get some opinions from the boards...

I voted for the Shield. I picked one up a few months back after test driving the XDM compact, Glock 43, Ruger LC9 and a couple others. XDM was the most expensive, but otherwise I liked it as much as the Shield. Didn't like the Glock's grip or the trigger. The Ruger is a nice pistol, but the reset travel was a little long for my taste.

So far I have put just about 800 rounds (seven different brands, and my reloads) through the Shield without a single hiccup. Very accurate out to 15 yards. The only issue I have with the Shield is that I want to put in an Apex Tactical trigger and sear kit, but for some reason you have to remove the rear sight to install the sear. As I don't have a sight pusher and don't want to invest in one, I've put those plans on hold.

All in all I like it a lot, and it's becoming my primary carry gun, in spite of the exceptionally stiff magazine springs.

Of the 4 you list, the only 2 did I look at when I was looking for a single stack 9mm for CCW ( I am an old fart revolver guy for 50 + years). I looked at the Glock 43, the Shield, Springfield and Kimber. Of those 4, I liked the Shield and Glock 43 the best. I probably would have gone with the Glock (I've never owned nor shot one) but supply was limited and it would have taken a while to get one. So, I went with the Shield and have had no regrets. I reload and it eats anything I feed it as far as different cast designs - never an issue of any type. Accurate at SD ranges, feels good and recoil is very manageable.

All depends on which feels the best in your hands and what points well for you. Handle all of the ones you are interested - if you can, rent them at a range and try them.

I'm looking at changing to 45 ACP for carry purposes and I like my 9mm Shield so much that I will certainly look at the 45 Shield. Lot's of good choices . . . all depends on what YOU like best. Good luck to you! :)

That's my next step. THere's a local range that rents all of them. I've already shot the Ruger LC9 and like it, but don't love it. Have shot the glock 4s (.380 auto), but the not the 43 yet.

Never shot the Kahrs or the Shield, so I'm interested and seeing how they feel in hand at the range.

No bad choices there! I have both PM-9 and CM-9 and if it were me I'd go with CM-9! Kahr does have a break in period and a little tougher to break down but man do I like these!

Any one of those would be good. I voted Shield, because that's what I own and I know it's a good one. Well great actually. My next choice would be the G43, followed by the Kahr.

I have the Shield 9mm, an XDs 9mm, a Glock 42 and a Walther PPS M2 9mm. I had an LC9s, but sold it. If I am not carrying my Sig Ultra Compact 9mm 1911, it is usually the PPS M2.

Above post #3.

I have one, bought it to teach with, and give advice, mine has never malfunctioned in any way, accurate as well. So I can at least offer a low cost selection.

Definitely check out the PPS. As you do, remember that there are three different grip sizes with the different magazines. It makes the gun very versatile, from great concealment at the smallest to good plinking at the largest. In any configuration, it handles surprisingly well for its size. The trigger is great right out of the box, and that's a plus with these smaller guns. I had a chance to to try out the original PPS and the Shield in 9mm and the PPS was just a nicer experience.

I liked the PPS but bought the Glock 43 because the Glock weighs 3 ounces less. I rented both and each shot really well. I've owned a PM9 in the past and found it to be unreliable. YMMV.

I would say any one of those on your list would be good choices. I would add a XDS 9mm 3.3 or 4.0 as an option also. I have the XDS 4.0 45acp and love it..

I'm sure any of the above would be good guns, but most of them I couldn't pick out of a line-up if I had to.

But a couple of years ago I bought a Ruger LC9s that was on sale at my LGS, and I've been quite happy with it. I'm an old revolver guy, but I replaced a Colt Cobra with the LC9s and have never looked back. It's accurate, reliable, a relatively small package, and light weight. Greater capacity than a revolver, and an adequate cartridge. I was concerned that the recoil would be pretty stiff, a Kel-Tec P-11 I used to own had kicked like a mule, but the LC9s doesn't seem to.

Mine is purple which wouldn't be my first choice, but for $150.00 off retail I figured I could live with it.

All of the choices are very good although I am not a Taurus fan. My LC9s was a very good gun but I traded it. I still rotate the XDs, Shield, PPS M2 (the most) and my Sig Ultra Compact 1911, in 9mm. I do have an LCP for pocket carry when it is necessary. My wife loves and carries the Glock 42. I pretty much stay with 9mm but occasionally carry a 45 1911 compact.

Before you make you make your decision, go to your LGS and rent these. You will ultimately make the decision based off how you shoot them and feel in your hand. Like others, I strongly recommend adding the Walther PPS M2 to your choices.
