Gore’s VP Could Be GOP

He won’t flat-out reject the idea of picking a Republican as his vice presidential running mate, Vice President Al Gore told stunned reporters yesterday.

"It's most unlikely, I don't want to mislead you," Gore said. "But I don't completely rule it out."

With the thought that bipartisanship is a key theme in rival George Bush’s campaign, Gore added, "My natural instincts are to reach out and create bipartisan coalitions."

Speaking to reporters while winging from Boston to Washington, D.C., aboard Air Force Two, Gore said he wanted a running mate who is unlike himself, even though that is contrary to what he called "my natural instinct."

His choice, he said, would be dictated by his desire to find the best possible successor.

"You ask the question is the person the best person to take over as president would that become necessary," Gore said.

Noting that all possible candidates for the number two spot on the Democrat presidential ticket will be carefully looked at by former secretary of state Warren Christopher, Gore said that, although he had given Christopher advice on how to go about picking potential candidates, "I have not given him a list of names."

He will make his choice before the Democrat convention, which convenes in Chicago on Aug. 14. He said his choice will not depend on who Bush picks at the GOP convention two weeks earlier.

"The conventions are so close together that whether or not [my choice] is announced, it will be effectively made before then," Gore said.

Could Republican Senator John McCain, who Gore met with in Boston, show up on a list of possible running mates? he was asked.

"He will be supporting Bush," Gore said. "That's no surprise to anybody, but that doesn't mean he and I can't work together."

I'll see you at the TFL End Of Summer Meet!

There is no chance in hell that The Evil Al Gore would ever appoint any Republican to any meaningful political position. I can't understand why Gore would want to pretend otherwise, or why anyone could be so foolish as to believe him. Al's soul, if he has one, is wholly owned by the DNC (i.e. Satan).

Given Al's whacky rhetoric in the past - he just could be babbling again.

Glad he invented the Internet so I can say this.

In fact, it was a conspiracy to ban guns that led Al Gore to invent the Internet.

When people start discussing them, lists will be made and then Janet Reno will come to your house.

Never mind, couldn't resist :)

He could pick somebody like Sen. John Chafee from Rhode Island and still appeal to the socialist vote. Not every Republican is a conservative, as so many on this board have pointed out.

What insulting, lying trash.
The race is so close that he will cynically pick the man or woman that seems at the time to best help push his candadacy, even if it is the devil himself.
He knows this as well as anyone, yet he tells fanstastic lies about it.
I'd hate to have to listen to 8 more years of cynical nonsense, so lets beat him.
Repulsive.
