The Peoples Democratic Republic of Massachusetts -- 4 May 2000 -- GPI --

Two state senators (Jacques and Creem) have proposed still another law to enhance "child safety." If enacted, no one in the state may possess more than one long gun, one hand gun, and more than 50 rounds of ammunition per weapon.

Massachusetts Attorney General Thomas Reilly recently banned the sale of new hand guns under "consumer protection" law.

I was talking about this with a guy from GOAL. They have tried to pass this kind of thing several times in the past, but it has been shot down. We still need to stay on it and write/call though because if they keep pushing under "child safety" this state will buy into it.

I've heard that rumor, but it seems to be unsubstantiated. I've heard of no house or senate bill number. Jacques in particular never misses an opportunity for a press conference, but there's been nothing that I've seen in the press about this.

Where did you find this information? I kind of doubt that it is true. If it is, I doubt it will even get out of committee.

That whirring sound you hear is the dead Patriots of Concord Bridge and Bunker Hill spinning in their graves.

This is what we get from 70+ years of government education. It is becoming clearer and clearer that a governmental educational system does not produce a citizenry educated enough to be able to properly dominate their government.

Not ot change the subject, but I have to disagree with a blanket condemnation of the US school system. The US has the most productive workers, highest (or close to it) standard of living, and the strongest economy in the world. We lead or are at least near the forefront of most sciences and technology (I'm sure there are some exceptions), yet most people in this country have been educated in the public school system. Its not a bad record and couldn't have been accomplished and maintained if the public school system was as terrible as some make. IMHO, public schooling available to all, despite its problems, is one of the things that made this country great. Why not compare us to countries that don't have public education beyond say the 6th grade?

Phil,

In 1962, the highest flying, fastest aircraft in the histry of the World were introduced -- the U-2 and the SR-71 Blackbird.

Both of these aircraft were designed with the use of slide rules, not computers. There is, at this time, no replacement for these aircraft and they have reached the end of their useful airframe life.

The schools of today are not turning out the caliber of student that could replicate this feat.

Back to th thread subject

I live in Massachusetts and I have heard nothing of this. Cheryl Jacques (pronounced "Jakes") is a prime mover in the anti-firearms movement here and the author of the new law here that is giving everyone on both sides of the equation fits. Of course, what else can you expect from someone who can't even pronounce their own name?

Gun Control: The proposition that a woman found dead in an alley, raped and strangled with her own panty hose, is more acceptable than allowing that same woman to defend herself with a firearm.

Since this is a Massachusetts thread, are any of you other Massachusans going to attend the nearest Armed Informed Mothers March which will be in Rhode Island?
