News from the Million Moron March

The Million Morons are at it again. Regarding their poll, I think I might agree with them for once ... I'd love for Gore to go down his litany of 'reasonable gun control' ... at this point, I think it may hurt him more than help him. What are your feelings?

Regards from AZ

AN OPRAH OPPORTUNITY

Hi Everyone,

Here's a chance to see if we can make our electronic clout felt - Oprah will sit down with Al Gore on Monday, September 11th (that this coming Monday!) and we can go to her website and weigh in on what election issues are important for her to ask him about. The last time we looked gun control was last on the list :(

Sooooo, here's the site to go to: http://www.oprah.com/newsletter/newspoll/newspoll_20000901.html

Or write Oprah a longer note about our issue at: http://www.oprah.com/tows/intheworks/plugs-292.html

Let's see if we can move our issue up the ladder this weekend. Send a message to everyone you can think of and ask them to send a message to everyone they can think of (especially people who have access to huge e-mail lists) - this is how we move our issue - should only take one to two minutes.

ALSO: Here's a report on the T.V. and Radio coverage from our national press conferences on Tuesday. The print coverage will come next.

CONGRATULATIONS TO EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU WHO MADE THIS HAPPEN - WITH PRACTICALLY NO LEAD TIME! As we build our chapter base we will be able to do this, and more, in our sleep! Now, I think most of us feel like we are in a sleepless-state :o

Interesting how many local TV and radio stations they get on. Do you think we could get on that many in two days?

Hmmmm.

Well, maybe I'm off base here, but given the fact that if Algore and Oprah discuss guns, chances are 99.99% that the discussion will be unfairly skewed anti-gun, thereby winning Algore even more voters, wouldn't it be more advisable to keep a low profile and simply remain silent? I don't think we WANT the gun issues at the forefront this elections cycle, given the anti-gun bias of the media (we WOULD if there was a pro-gun media bias). WE are still going to vote pro-gun, regardless of what the talking heads say about it, and I seriously doubt the talking heads will convince fence-sitting gun owners/ hunters that Algore is a scary threat to our rights, because those people typically believe "reasonable" gun control is OK, and "Al certainly sounds reasonable here - it's just licensing handguns, after all". This will in no way help us, getting this issue in the debate hotseat, in my view, but I could be wrong...

Wellllllll! Lets just hope Albert Arnold ( the pig ) steps in some pig poop and the people can smell it.

Jeff,

I think this could be an opportunity. Big Al hasn't talked much about gun control this campaign... why? because it hasn't sold well for him. Remember a few months ago when the Democrats and the media ran a combined campaign (I must be paranoid) to highlight the anniversary of Columbine and roll that into a call to support more gun control? (You remember right before they ran the combined campaign to highlight how horrible the death penalty is ... hmm who could they have been trying to denigrate with that one?) It went flat and so did Gore's polling numbers. The Clintons keep throwing this one against the wall to see if they can make it stick.

Gore wasn't at the "Couple o' Thousand Moms March" because his constituents complained that they wouldn't be able to vote for him if he kept talking about Photo ID's and government lists of gun owners.

To borrow a phrase from the head moron: Sooo, what if we call in and ask POINTEDLY if Gore intends to go ahead with his plan to require photo ID's for gun owners and keep their names in government files?

The only downside would be that Oprah's audience is primarily made up of TV-sotted liberal couch potatos, who would probably spill their "Healthy Choice" TV dinners all over themselves applauding such a scheme.

Jeff,

Thanks for posting & your advise will be taken in just a few re "hitting the lists" - we do have a few ... ;)

Do please drop me an e-mail (yours is currently unavailable) ... some big happenings down your way that you need to be aware of.

It _is_ interesting that Gore has backed off on gun control as a front burner issue. NRA membership is now at over 4 million members. The last Zogby poll showed that the election may be decided by less than one million voters.

Talk to your union member friends. Do all you can to get them to realize what a threat Gore will be to their "hunting rights."

This is as close an election as I've ever read about or seen.

God help us.

Dick
Want to send a message to Bush? Sign the petition at http://www.petitiononline.com/monk/petition.html and forward the link to every gun owner you know.

Hopefully, they'll start talking about gun control so that pro-gun people won't accidently vote for Gore. Over the last couple of months, Gore has purposely put gun control on the back burner and has concentrated his speeches on education and prescriptions.

We don't need him as president. Don't give him the chance to bring it up again next year and make it an issue over the next four years...

VOTE, VOTE, VOTE...

Select ANY of those license/registration forms and print them out. Go to anyplace that lets you bulk copy items. My local high-priced shop charges me 6c per copy for 50.

Pass them out to your gun owning friends, union, couch potatoes, etc. and tell them to fill out that form so they will be used to it if Gore gets in.

For a couple of bucks, you may be able to scare the yell out of enough passive gun owners to make a difference.

The most dangerous aspect of the media's anti-gun bias is that it seduces us into thinking that our views are far less popular than they really are, because we never hear them on TV, or read them in the papers. If gun control becoming a big campaign issue would help the Democrats, we wouldn't HAVE to raise it ourselves, THEY'D be hammering on it.

No, we shouldn't run away from bringing this subject up in public forums; Part of the reason we're losing ground is that only the other side gets heard.

Disagree. The most dangerous aspect of anti-gun bias is that gun owners either don't vote (hunters) or vote Democratic. As I said, any gun owner voting Democratic should save himself time and, on the way back from the polls, dump his guns in a land-fill.
