Okay, okay, I gotta show it off, alright?

I found this at a local gunshop and couldn't pass it up. Besides, everyone ought to have an airweight .38 if they carry, right?

S&W Model 042 Centennial Airweight
This is a 3 screw alloy J-Frame hammerless model. Reintroduced as the beginning model of a line of alloy frame Centennial models. This gun is the polished JA frame with a steel cylinder & steel 2" barrel. Fitted with Uncle Mike's comba grip. This is a transition model produced only in 1992 and is not Airweight marked. This model was never cataloged.

Below is a photo - apologies for my poor photo skills.

Very, very nice revolver, BillCA! The gun looks to be in pretty good condition? Nice find! And, your photos are definately, improving!

That is a great find. S&W made more than a few oddball and uncatalogued firearms. Agency contract overruns, distributor special order and extremely limited production models. You could collect only those oddballs and still have a nice S&W collection. What leather are you going to use? The only complaint about Centennial type hammerless revolvers is finding holsters.

I need to re-read about getting the focus right on that A85 camera.

I like this gun. It just feels good. My opinion might change somewhat after firing a few rounds though! :D

Right now it'll go into the same Galco open-top OWB holster as the 649. (Speed master?). Also have a IWB holster for it too, but I'm thinking of a Thunderware carry might be okay for this LW gun.

Mike - is your serial number laser etched under the topstrap too?

Bill,

Yep, but it's kind of hard to read. It's etched fairly lightly.

I made one modification to mine that I like a lot... I put one of the sculpted and angled thumbpieces on it, swapped it out with a Chief's Special I have.

I also put a set of Hogue full-sized rubber grips on it. The boot grips were simply too small. Even with the Hogue grips, though, it still disappears into my pocket.
