I told myself no more guns, but a friend said he was selling his guide gun in 45-70 for $400.00 with ammo. He had put less than 2 boxes through this gun. So he let me shoot it. At 50 yards w/ open sights using 2 different loads for my contender I shot about a two inch group, if not for 2 flyers, it would have been about 1.5 inch group w/ eight shots. load with ranchdog 350 lgc w/ 28.5 grns of 5744 and Rem 405 backed by rel7.

So I got 4 1/2 boxes of federal 300 hp a box of Remington 300 gn HP and 3/4 of a box of 405 grn remingtons. So I think thats a pretty good deal for $400.00 7 boxes of 45-70 ammo and a almost new guide gun. Plus I already load for 45-70 for my contender carbine. the gun was made in '05.

I got an egw scope base ordered, and now need to find a leupold 1-4x20mm scope for it.

I think you did pretty well, I'd have been hard pressed to walk away if the gun was in good shape myself. Congrats on the new gun.

agreed

man I wish I had friends like that...
looking at the exact same gun and it's like over 800 bucks!
good for you

Ya you need friends like this guy

the marlin was the 2nd gun I bought off him. The first gun was a ruger blackhawk in 44mag w/ 4-5/8 barrel. holster, 4 boxes of ammo, 2 things of cci snake shot for $150.00. I really didn't want a 44mag since I have the same gun in 45l.colt w/ 45acp cylinder. But at that price could not pass. and no there not hot.
