Newbie's humble collection

I just started hunting and recreational shooting about 4 months ago. I also got my concealed permit and some pistols. (but that's a post for a different thread)

Here is my very humble collection of rifles. As you can see, I have a passion for Russian-inspired rifles. I'm not a technical person, so complex rifles like the AR-15 do not appeal to me. I like rifles that you can spray down with a little oil and shoot all week in adverse weather conditions without having to do maintenance. The simpler the better. Anyway, I hope you enjoy my poor and humble collection.

Nice eastern block rifles. I need to get one someday. The problem is they cost as much as a new AR upper half that pops right on to my DIY lower. Plus it is a more precision shooter with a multitude of caliber options.

ARs are not that technical. Even a clod like me built a lower from scratch. Upwards of 2500 rounds and not a mechanical problem yet. Cleaning is not as hard as you might think.

Yes, please don't think I am dogging you for being incorrect as you are by your own admission a newbie. But the notion that ARs are over engineered and underwhelming in regards of reliability and durability is History Channel BS and half truths grandfathered in from Vietnam.

Also, I like your Saiga, they are really a top of the line AK despite not looking as RFC as one with a pistol grip.

Nice start especially considering 4 months worth of ownership/interest. AR's are not near as complicated as it seems. If you can put together a bicycle/grill from the store you can build an AR.

Nice rifle's. I also like the SKS and AK family of rifles a lot, for the reasons you mentioned.

What kind of optic do you have on the Saiga?

Great collection! I've always been curious about the Saiga hunting rifles. Do the internals of the Saiga differ from the AK at all?

Father Time: It's just a standard red dot sight, nothing fancy really.

Achilles: Yes, the internals of the Saiga are the same as the AK. In fact, the Saiga is just a Russian AK-47 that has been converted into a hunting rifle. Some people convert their Saigas back into AK-47 configuration, which can be done easily and cheaply. However, am keeping my Saiga as is, since I use it primarily as a hunting rifle. Comes in handy against wild boars. The last boar i shot (at 70 yards) instantly dropped dead. I find the 7.62x39 extremely effective for killing boars, and at $3.50 USD per box of 20 rounds in some online stores, it is cheap as dirt to shoot with....so I can get plenty of practice with it.
