Anyone have one of these?

It has been years since I bought a revolver and the last two Taurus revolvers I had were nice guns. I found one of these for $299 NIB and thought I would check around to see if the quality was still the same as it was 10 years ago.

On a related note, I used photoshop to create a sillouette of this pistol and of S&W's pistol of the same style and it looks to me as though any holster that the J-Frame Smith will fit, will also fit the Taurus. Does this sound right? (See graphic below)

Taurus silloutte is in Black and the J-Frame is in Red.

Yes, the taurus is essentially a copy of the smith. You should be fine.

I haven't owned a taurus in years but never heard bads things about them until recently. I think the QC might have gone down a bit. I don't have first hand knowledge but here is a related story.

This isn't the first time I've heard this complaint. I hope yours is old enough to be quality.

I bought a Taurus Stainless 605 about 6 months ago and have been nothing but happy with it. The very first round I put through it punched out the paper right on the X and I've done well with it ever since.

I've put several hundred rounds through it without a hiccup. I've been using it as my carry piece and have no trouble trusting my life to it.

Only negative thought ... I also have an old (firing pin on the hammer) 4" S&W 65, and it is a better shooting gun. Trigger pull is smoother.

But the 605 may work itself in. I'm happy with my purchase.

Taurus has made their entire lineup of handguns to boot on the design of all other major manufacturer's designs.

I have the S&W version and I've handled the Taurus. Hard to see the difference actually. I think the S&W trigger will probably "wear in" smoother than the Taurus, but having owned one other Taurus wheelgun, I think they are a very good deal.

Fine looking!

I own 2 S&W model 49 J-frame.Taurus is patterened after these I think. I believe the weight is about 23 oz on mine. One I bought in the early '60s, the other was a trade last year in near new condition. Both are excelent guns, and I believe the Taurus copies are also.Taurus has come a long way in the last few years. And the blued S&W 49 is no longered made. great pictures. And yes the holster would fit both. I have made several holsters for these models.........S&W Makes a .model 649 .357 stainless similar......MUTT

Thanks for the replies, folks.

I had a couple of Taurus revolvers years ago and I liked them a lot. They were reliable enough that I gave my snubbie to my mother because she wanted a smaller pistol to carry in her purse instead of the 1911 she usually carries. Guess they have kept up with the quality ok!
