It's a Howa 1500 30/06 SS Sporter barrel...Shot 2.5 inch groups on first outing... Had a break installed so my daughter wouldn'd mined shooting it...Bought it with her to hunt with me next year. Used a 44 marlin this year. Saw a nice buck but to far for the gun....Wanted me to get her more gun....Well I have now bought a Stock Laminated and had it bedded to the rifle...Not pillar bedded....Finished it myself and to it to the range today....It shot the first 3 shots in a 1.25 group... a good improvement....but the next two 4 shot groups spread to 2 inches... in the first 3 shot group the first 2 shots went in the same mouse hole and the third shot was 1.25 inches high a 12:30...the next 2 groups spread immediately...the first shot was on then the next shots 2 inches high 12:30,1,1:30.(both groups). When i laid the targets together. the first and second of group 1 and the first shots of groups 2 and 3 yielded a .25" group...What do you think is happening/?

I felt good about all of the shots...how long should i wait between shots next time weather was great today not to hot> used nice bag rest front and rear...

Also barrel fouling. Wait a minute or so and clean the barrel between shots, or fire fouling shots, or don't clean your barrel ever. (or until you lose accuracy...once you've found it, that is)

What type of ammo are you shooting and is your barrel free floating? Also how hot are you letting the barrel get?

It is free floated to the balance point of the barrel about 1.5 inches past the lug...I was thinking of pillar bedding it but the back bolt doesn't have enough wood to drill because of the trigger being so close...I guess it could be done but the pillar would have faced on that side. I think I will take more time between shots to see if it is the barrel heating up...

Did you check your optics? Scope mounts tight? Even if your bases are tight your rings might not be. Scope up to the recoil? Did you have a good point of aim? Sometimes I have trouble putting the crosshairs over the exact same spot. Usually happens when I use those reactive targets with the tiny orange center.

Is your stock loose? If the action is moving around in the stock it can do this, check everything sounds like something is moving.
Also the louder blast from that muzzle break might cause her to flinch also.
A good recoil pad would have been eneough to tame the recoil.
