NEWBIE Question: How to get concealed carry in Colorado Springs???

I am considering getting my concealed carry license, but have no idea how to go about getting it. I live in Colorado Springs.

1)Do I have to take any formal handgun classes and or concealed carry classes? I want to do this, and would like suggestions on any places in Colorado Springs that do this. I really don't wanna have to drive to either Aurora or Denver for classes.

If a class is required, am I only "licensed" to carry one make/model gun for carry or can I pick and choose what gun I may wanna carry from one day to the next, should I elect to?

What are the total costs associated with getting the necesary training, licensing fees, taxes, etc?

Any help and or contact info is very much appreciated, as I know that a few people here from the Springs also carry...Thanks!

Nathan, I live in C-Springs.

CHLs are relatively easy to get here. Go to the Sheriff's Office on Cascade Ave and ask the snippy receptionist for a new CHL app. You'll need to show "proof" of competence with handguns (a hunting license will suffice, as will a DD-214 or a completion certificate for NRA Personal Protection). It costs $99, $85 for the Sheriff and $14 for CBI (money orders recommended).

I teach in the monthly Pistol/PP class at Paradise Sales, 8th and Colorado. This month's class is booked, and next month is filling up fast. The class runs Friday and Saturday nights from 7pm to about midnight, and all day Sunday at the range. Next month's dates are the 21st-23rd. Cost is $90 plus 100 rounds of ammo (provide your own, or buy from the store at cost). If you need a gun, the store will loan you one. .38 Special is the minimum for revolvers, 9mm for autos. We use TQ-19 silhouettes and shoot at 10, 25, and 50 feet.

If you go to the store, ask for Sue (tall, pretty blonde woman) and tell her Ken recommended the course. If you need more info, feel free to email me.

Coinneach, So I take it that since I don't have "proof" of handgun competence, then the course offered at Paradise Sales will cover this requirement?

What range do you use on Sunday's?

Thanx for your help!

Nathan

Yes, the course at Paradise Sales exceeds the requirements.

We usually shoot at Cactus Flats, located in Penrose (about a 45-minute drive down 115).

Will his liscense be honored in Denver, or other municipalities that may jump on the no gun/no pocket knife bandwagon?

Each county is different; we were trying to get that fixed when the little sh*tbags at Columbine did their thing. Preemption never even got out of committee this year, but that's OK since Governor Gun Control promised to veto it anyway.

Unofficially, most counties in CO will have no problem with other counties' CHLs. Denver, however, is its own little world.
