Newbie FFL help.

I've had my FFL for almost two months now and so far i've only sold to out of state folks via their local dealer. My question is about NICS/DROS checks. I live in California and i've been given mixed info from the CDOJ and and the ATF. The ATF tells me that i have to do NICS check through their service. The CDOJ tells me that i only have to do a DROS check via the California MCI charged service. Can any Cali. FFLs help me out on this?

Thanks
JD

JD,
You're not being ignored, it's just lack of info (for most of us).

Can anyone help JD on this?
(I have no FFL and don't even understand the question!! )

I'm not an 01FFL, nor do I live in Kali, but I believe that Brady is set up for states that don't have their own system. Missouri has its own handgun permit system that supplants NIST, from what I hear. So it should be elswhere where the state regulates firearms. Long guns in MO go through NIST.
Check the regulation books given to you (Tan & Green covers) and look up the Brady info.

Sorry can't help you. But, I'm curious how much you charge? And why do you charge that amount? Also, where are you located?

Dear Judis De Winter,

I can not answer your question because in My state , all nics checks are run through
the state police and we never contact nics
for any reason.

I did want to caution you about accepting other dealers ffl licenses for transfer.

YOU MUST FIRST CAL BATF TO ACCERTAIN THE VALIDITY OF THE FFL LICENSE YOU ARE SHIPPING FIREARMS TO.

Reciently, underaged teen age high school kids were able to forge ffl licenses by downloading a sample license off BATF Web Page and filling in the blanks with facticious business names and their home address thereby getting hand guns and ammo shipped to their homes . A every day ink jet printer was used to product the altered FFL
license and then photocopied at a 5 cent
convience store photocopy machine, turning out 20 forged ffl licenses for $1.oo

These turned out indistinguishable from a real ffl license so the only thing to do is to verify validity with BATF.

It is your butt that will fry if you fail to check the validity of all ffl licenses that you ship to.

Check before shipping and Be Save ,not Sorry.
