Hello All,

I have been reading your posts on the local shops on the Long Island, NY.
I would like to give kudos to Benson's Gun Shop in Coram, NY.
I was a little nervous going in after reading some of the Posts, but my choices
are very limited, living on the very end of the island.

I was greeted right away and I told the gent that I was a newbie and had just gotten my permit. Held my breath and waited for negative to start, instead he asked how could he help. I said I was looking for something in 45 cal. He show me all the gun he had in that cal, asked if there any gun I was partial to and what I plan on using it for.

To make a long stories short. Great people, husband, wife and two sons.
The store was busy with about six customer at time. The gent always asked if I minded when he to stop and answer some ones question . I was there about 2 hrs and ended up buying a S&W M&P 45acp. Before he would let me leave, he made sure I could handle the gun safely and could strip it down for cleaning. The other gent (who I later came to know as his son) said he was going for coffee, would I care for a cup. Guys, you can't get better service If I had wanted to stay all day and hang out I'm sure I could have. When I did finally leave his parting words were if I had any question or problems to please call him. So from my point of view they get an A++, they made a friend and I will buy from them again.

Never been to Benson's but for any one looking, be sure to also check out Campsite Sport Shop in Huntington and then there is South Shore Sportsman in Merrick (I think).

Benson's

Nice to hear that Benson's is still in business. He has always been a class act. I worked only a few miles from the shop for more than 30 years. Always a good rep.

Thanks for the replies and another Happy story

I stopped in at Long Island Shooting Center yesterday to check out the range and I must be under the Pistols Angle"s watchful eye because I had another great experience. A young fellow behind the counter asked if he could help me. I explained that I was a newbie and was interested in some range time and possible beginners lessons. He explained what my options were and the cost. When he asked what gun I be shooting and I told him M&P 45acp, I took him up on an offer for a trial lesson. He went at a nice pace with him patiently guiding me in safe handling and making correction in my stance and grip, trigger finger position, aiming with the reason behind each. I paid for half and hour he spend an hour on the range and another half an hour after. What a great young man will go back for more. Hope my luck keeps up. Also had a few question he wasn't sure of and he introduce me to the owner who was more than glad to answer them. Once again thanks for making me feel welcome here at TFL .

Congrats on experience and purchase.

I am cheap but, I try to patronize smaller shops whenever possible.

I just bought my wife a "good" camera and instead of going to a "box" we went to a camera store and for the extra 50-100 bucks we got about 45 minutes of expert service and advice and little extras well worth it.

Wecome to TFL and thank you...

We always hear about the poor shops and the idiots behind the counters.
Thank you for posting your positive experience--we don't hear many of those, and the dealers/shop owners who really go "above and beyond" deserve our praise and our patronage. With the current economic and political climate, we need to support people like this. They are our future.

Got to love the mom and pop gun stores. I do most of my buying at a couple of small stores becouse of the people behind the counter.
