New yugo sks muzzle brake.

I just paid for my new yugo sks, and it had the GL removed and replaced with a muzzle break, my question is, is the muzzle break actual functional, or is it just welded there to make it not look like something is missing?

My guess is someone took off the GL and did not like the threaded end on the barrel. So they put a muzzle break or flash suppressor on there to cover the threads. Or they just thought that it would make the sks more accurate. The sks is a battle rifle so 2-3 moa is just fine. I like mine and wouldn't trade it for anything.

That makes sence. But did whatever factory do that?
Cause it was unissued and it's brand new. To me that is.

What kind of sks do you have?

Pro-tip, if you are shooting prone in a sandy area, make sure you and your friends are not downwind. Learned that last weekend.

I saw somewhere that you can get some kind of adapter that will launch tennis balls, looked like fun. You would have to find blanks though.

Hahaha. But does it work?

Yes they do and you can get pratice granades for them.

It does indeed, it's a standard NATO 22 millimeter grenade launcher. Switch over to single fire/grenade launch (the switch at the end of the gas tube), raise sight, fit grenade, load a grenade launching blank, fire.

**** DO NOT USE A LIVE ROUND TO FIRE A GRENADE, INERT OR NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES ****

Look for NATO 22mm practice grenades, or the surplus adapters for US pineapple grenades (the old army/navy store when I was a kid had piles for .10 each)

There is a website that sells a golf ball or tennis ball launcher, google it.

One more word of warning, do not attempt to make explosive rifle launched devices, you will not pass go, you will not collect $200, you will go directly to jail and become some bad man's boyfriend.

Oh I know the granade launcher works, but century arms cut it off and replaced it with a welded on muzzle break I mean does the muzzle break work, or is it a kinda "if it don't work,'chrome it" kinda deal?

If the muzzle brake has ports or holes, or some combination of the two, it works. To what degree depends on the configuration of said ports or holes.

It had about 4 sets of three holes lines up but it's only spot welded in two places so there's room for gasses to sneak out the back of the MB. That's why I'm asking cause I thought MBs needed to be sealed off.
